I am trying to model something like this around wall openings..

Should I just model around the opening with a 25mm plaster wall and join it to my existing wall?

It depends how many of these you have to make.

If it's just one or two, yeah, I'd go with making a separate plaster wall type around with an edit profile.

If it's a hundred (lol), then maybe make a quick face-based family?

You could add parameters for LxB of the opening, offset distance from the opening, width of the band and thickness of the band...

If the openings contain a Door or Window, you could add the plaster bands in those families. For openings without door or window, you can still use a Door or Window family to create the opening and add the plaster band as well.

Why not build a opening family with the built in band? See attached

Do you want it to join to the wall?  Or it can just be like a door trim, but made of plaster?

yes I thought of that but can I then place a window in the same place as the opening?

the plaster bands are existing

just like a door trim, made of plaster, it doesnt have to be part of the wall

They are existing, so I think It is best to keep them seperate to the windows which I will be changing in the new construction

Model as a door family without opening cut, just the plaster band.

posting from the correct id (also notified mod to remove the other ones) -

@ToanDN pretty much summed up what I had suggested - make a face-based family.

I would think even if you want to give it a door identity (since there is a general aversion to leaving something generic category), I feel it might be better to model it using a generic face-based template, and then give it whatever category you want  - door/window/other...

If you model it symmetric around the Centre ref-planes in the template, you can use those to align it with the windows that you have placed... (might have to do it in an elevation though)
