Parts Height

Someone knows an easy way to change multiple parts height?

Maybe even using a plugin or dynamo...

Actually, we can do this one by one, pushing its shape handles...

Thanks!

What is the original of those parts? Why wouldn't you create the original with the intended dimensions before converting it to parts?

Cause I could save many work hours doing so.

I need to select wall parts with white paint, for example, and just decrease its height once by 1m. Unfortunatly, I can´t change the parts height, except for pushing its shape handles one by one...

Doing this, instead, directly on the wall, I will need to do many sections views, Split elements, to change types, etc

Unlock the white paint layer of the wall type, select the walls, and change top extension distance to -1m.

Thanks for your reply!

That´s a way more complex than this what want to achieve...

Actually, I´m looking for a better solution using parts to optimize this process 🙂

How is a 3-step workflow which does not involve a custom dynamo script complex?

Just wondering if you should be using parts at all...

Imagine the situation where you have to decrease the internal wall layers below the ceiling, but some of these layers should be 50cm above that same ceiling.

At the same time, the inner layers of the WC walls must use a different height and also different colors/materials and on the other side of the same wall, I have a bedroom or even an external facade face with different materials or height.

Normally, I do exactly what you are saying. But it takes maybe 1 or 2 workdays to do that for maybe 1000 walls... one by one, using normal walls (adjusting its heights and wall types and many horizontal SL - split element) OR I could do this with 15 minutes, using parts, and just selecting the specific parts on its schedule and modifying its heights... The problem is: Revit alone doesn´t allow me to do this with multiple parts...

So I´m looking for a plugin or dynamo speed up the journey 🙂

The workflow I told you does not involve splitting elements.  Where did it come from?

Hi @ToanDN

I appreciate your help, really. But the workflow you told me is a  supposition that doesn´t resolve my optimization desire, except for very simple and specific situations, but not so useful overall in my case...

I know I could make many different walls for each occasion; I know I could configure its heights on the Wall edit type/modify section tab, and even know how to control the wall heights on the wall schedules.

The real problem here is how to optimize 1000 walls made like this (it´s just a random example):

Sorry pal but I don't think you understand the workflow. It does not involve any of the complexity you said above.  You asked how to reduce the height of a wall layer of multiple walls by 0ne meter and that is exactly how you do it.

@alan_eu I think perhaps you might have to be more specific what your walls and parts look like, ie.how you did the division sketch. Possibly share an .rvt file showcasing the issue. In general those 3 steps @ToanDN showed you would work I think, it's a bit unclear for your situation though. So if it's not a solution, be more specific. 🙂

Hey @martijn_pater and @ToanDN !

The real issue here isn´t about how to use Revit, but how to optimize this process... Probably using plugins or Dynamo...

Actually, there is too manual and repetitive process involved...

With a closer look at my last image, you should notice the wall finishes on both sides are different, and also, each side has some different materials, each one with different heights. So, I can´t just use "Top Extension Distance".

Something peculiar about that... but anyway, I guess then you could use Align Multiple (ribbon checkbox) to a level/reference plane ie, if you would do this from the start you could just move that up or down... Although in general I guess it's better to not lock too much, but here it might be useful. I don't know how you would do it using Dynamo, but I suppose it's possible... or you could start aligning 1000 walls, should be doable before chrismas... ^^

Are there any rules to these dimensions accrossing all walls or are they different from one wall to the next?

@martijn_paterThanks for the encouragement 😂 😂 😂

@ToanDN There are some rules defined by room. Most bathrooms, bedrooms, etc, has their own set of material and height configurations. Except for some exceptions 🙂

Create a parametric profile family with different types for different rules and use it to create different wall reveal types to trim off the wall layers.

Sounds interesting. Would work with reveals or even a void on face based family.

I have to test it using ifc file export to see their use outside Autodesk also.

Thank you for the ideas @ToanDN @martijn_pater 👊😎

ps. I´m still looking for a good parts management plugin or dynamo. It would work even better 😉

Hi, Alan... Are you still looking for the solution?  Me too.. rssrs.  Why don't you/we put this in Revit ideas? And ask for people to vote? It would be a dream to have a native solution, and I think it would be the best workflow, without plugin ou Dynamo rotines.
