Updating an older revit file to 2020 version.

Hi,

Can someone help me update an old revit file? I initially started my project in Revit 2020 and I had to downgrade it to a 2009 version because my university only has that version on their computers and I had to use their computer to render. I am graduating so I would like to access, edit, and/ or use that project on my own computer. I tried exporting it as an IFC file but I am assuming I did it wrong since I only see text when I open the file. I tried opening it as is and I get a notification saying that the file is a later file and it cannot be retrieved after selecting the upgrade revit file. I plan on going back to my University tonight to try and save the IFC file again but I was hoping I'd get some help to avoid the drive.

Unfortunately, there no way to fully convert 2020 to 2009.

As you tried you can try Ifc and NWD to take render. but this method you can have the native file as in 2020.

So I ended up going to my university and I realized the file is actually from revit 2021. I dont know why my home computer said something about it being a 2009 file. So in this case, should I just export it as an IFC so I can use it in my 2020 version? I want to be able to edit it and everything. Or is there a better way to do this?

there is no backward compatibility in revit. you can still use the version revit 2021, you can download Revit 2021 to install in your computer as student version and good for 1 year HERE. thanks

I have the 2021 but it doesn't fully load. I have been trying to load it since August. It will load all the necessary files except for 1 or 2. I think it has to do with the library? I'm not sure.
