Opening tool or edited floor boundary for stair opening

In creating openings in a floor, is it better to use the opening tool (vertical/shaft/face) or to edit the boundary of the floor?

I understand the benefit and use shaft openings when my opening boundary is consistent through multiple floors, but am curious specifically about how best to handle varied openings like that created by a stair. I've used both the vertical opening and floor boundary methods and haven't decided which is best.

- Shaft works best for multiple floors, and/or floors has slope and you don't want the opening to affect the slope
- Vertical opening: similar to above but only for a single floor
- Edit Boundary for a flat floor, and for sloped floor if you need to control the elevation of the edges of the opening
