Nested Door Family Component Visibility

Hello, I've been working on a multi-layered nested door family. It is ALMOST working perfectly but I have one very confounding issue. My glazing grids are a family nested into the door panel and associated by type. The door panel family is loaded into the door and controlled with a drop down selection. For some reason, I can see my grids in 3D but not in elevation and I don't understand why! I'm attaching it here for reference, feel free to stick it in a project or disect it or whatever.

I think I've solved your issue. In the nested family Cross the geometry has Plan/RCP turned off. Once you load it to the Half Lite family it changes the Work Plane direction. In the nested family Cross it lays horizontaly on the workplane and in the nested family Half Lite it's vertical, so Family Element Visibility Settings are kinda inverted. You wanted to turn off the visibility in the Plan, but once loaded to the higher family it's elevation that is turned off.

Thanks for taking a look! I thought it might have to do with the workplane like you said, although I'd been messing with that for a while too. We are not running Revit 2021 yet but I'll try to replicate your explanation so I make sure I understand it anyway. 🙂

You're absolutely right, I could do that, and I might if I find I like having that functionality. We have definitely gone back and forth as to whether grids should be visible by type or by instance, so that aspect may change as well. Thanks!
