Is there any reason why ? Can I manually start it externally from Revit ?

Hello @ABertzouanis9F98Y
Thank you for posting to the forum.
Which version of Revit are you using? Has this always been an issue with this version of Revit?
Do other versions work correctly on this computer?
Please try these steps to see if it helps,
Does Macro Edit launch correctly?
Have You updated windows system to version 21H1 lately?

Please type winver in windows search field, run it and check windows system version.

Hi @Rafal.Gaweda and @michael.coviello , I'm assuming that the user is in 2021, or has installed the 2021.1.1.3 hotfix, as this appears to be a problem with that specific patch. The macro manager works fine in all versions of Revit including 2021 before applying the patch. After the patch is applied, the macro manager is broken in all versions of Revit.
Specifically the problem is with SharpDevelop not loading. I have recorded a video to explain (attached), but you can see one 2021.1.1.3 patch has been installed when creating a module it does not appear until the macro manager is closed and re-opened. SharpDevelop never loads. Trying to create a macro doesn't work at all.
This is on Win10 20H2.
@ryan.lenihan Many thanks for your video. That is exactly what I am experiencing. Haven't tried to check if that occurs due to the Revit 2021 patch. I will try to downgrade and confirm if that works without the latest patch.
See below my Revit versions. I also tested in Revit 2020 and my Macro IDE does not open.
Discussing with one of my colleagues that had the error after applying the 2021.1.1.3 hot fix, they confirmed it is fixed if they first fully uninstall Revit 2021, then re-install without that particular hot fix. If they just rolled back the patch, it apparently did not fix the problem.
Hi @ABertzouanis9F98Y Were you able to confirm if rolling back to 2021.1.2 or uninstall/reinstall as @ryan.lenihan mentioned fixes the issue?
Also, do you find the same issue of the Macro IDE not opening in Revit 2022?
@michael.coviello confirming that when 2021.1.1.3 is installed the macro IDE does not work on any version of Revit installed on my machine (2020 - 2022) and for a co-worker that is 2019-2021.
Once I have uninstalled and re-installed Revit 2021, the macro IDE works for every version of Revit again. I'm currently patched to 2021.1.1.2 and leaving it there.
Thank you @ryan.lenihan Could you and @ABertzouanis9F98Y post a journal file of one of the failing attempts for review? (preferably from 2021.1.1.3)
Thank you!
Thank you for the details @ryan.lenihan
This problem has been logged to our team for investigation.
There is a subfolder called "SDA" (by default install it is here: C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Revit 2021\SDA
If you have other versions of Revit installed already, Does this help to get the Macro IDE to work for Revit 2021.
This also works with Revit 2020\SDA and Revit 2022\SDA
Please hit the Accept as Solution button if this helps to solve the issue.
@michael.coviello that's brilliant! thanks that works ![]()
I'm sure you don't need it now, but I had to re-install 2021.1.1.3 to get the journal for you. I've attached it anyway for info.
edit: i can't accept the solution as i'm not the OP.
@ryan.lenihan I'm happy to hear that worked for you; I'll mark it as an accepted solution.
@michael.coviello This workaround also worked for me. Thank you very much.
For what it counts, I noticed patch 2021.1.4 does not solve this issue. Using the SDA from 2019 still works, though.
