Multiple Revit versions on single workstation (2014, 2015, 2016)

Can I properly install standalone Revit 2014, 2015, and 2016 on the same workstation without conflicts or other bad results, if I install them in that order (2014, then 2015, then 2016)?

It seems that I have heard that TWO versions on the same workstation is the limit, that THREE versions is a real problem. True?

I think the problem occurs when you accidentally open & save an older version Revit file with the latest Revit 2016.  Then you won't be able to open it again in the older Revit version.

Thanks for your prompt reply. Understood. What I want to do is to bring projects done in an earlier version for4ward to the current version. Opening them in the older version again is a solvable problem. My concern is with the truth or falsity of statements I've heard that just having more than two Revit versions on one machine is a real problem. If true, I would not do it. If false, then I'd go ahead and install 2016 on the same machine instead of using a different machine.

You can have 3 versions of Revit per licensing....so 3 versions on a computer.  All of our computers have 2014-2016 installed.
