Multiple revision numbering

Hi

Is there a way to use multiple revision numbering system?  What I mean is for every stage of a project to have a diferent prefix on revision. Preliminary as P01, P02, P03 and so on, than for Tender: T01,T02,T03 and so on, and than for Construction: C01, C02, C03....I've tried to use numeric with prefix and alfanumeric as fixed figures but that work only with 2 systems and at first place alfanumeric have to be used othervise revision shedule is not in the right order.

You can try it by sacrificing a field in the Rev schedule. Then you can combine two field to create your new rev number (here issued by and revision number).

In this case I sorted on date, requiring to use a proper format

Hello,

Is there a way were i can number my revisions 1.1,1.2,1.3,1.4 etc & also having 2.0,2.1,2.2 then 3.0,3.1,3.2. all on the same sheet. We are using a CDE Central data system that sends drawings that have been reviewed for changes to the back of the line and then moves them up - example first drawing P1.0 then all team comment revisions 1.1,1.2 until the client reviews them and requests changes. Once those changes are done and we up-load to the CDE it numbers it as series 2.0, this drawing can theoretically go can go to the back of the line again once the client asks for more changes ie., 3.0  then 4.0 & so on until the client is satisfied all it's requirements are meet.

Have you tried establishing a custom sequence with a custom prefix in this dialog box?

It works for one drawing, not for whole project because one drawing can have revisions sequence P01, P02, P03, T01, T02 while second P01, T01, T02, T03.

Have you tried the option of numbering revisions "per sheet"? instead of "per project"?

Alfredo,

i have tried by sheet. The alphanumeric sequencing in by sheet will only let you do as follows fr first numbers 1.0, 2.0,3.0 just like letters A,B,C. I  Need to find a way were I can make both numbers rise consecutivaly as well. Example 1.0,1.1,1.2 then 2.0,2.1,2.2 then 3,4,5 etc. For both numbers. At this stage I am not sure it is possible in Revit. If you could try what you mean and if it works I would be grateful for any advice.

regards

Mark

Estimate the possible numbers of revisions and add them to the Alphanumeric list.  Then add them all in your Revisions list.  When you need to place the actual Revision clouds or check the Revisions box for Sheets, you can choose what already listed there.

Hi L.Maas,

I just ran into the same problem in Revit 2018 and was wondering if there is any easier solution to that? We are now goint construction stage and need to continue the revisions from P01, P02, P03, etc, to C01, C02, C03, etc.

I didn't quite understand the method you suggested. So, I went to edit the title block and went into the revision schedule, combined the 'Issued by' with the 'Revision Number', but then what? I reloaded the title block into the project but couldn't see any difference anywhere.

Can you explain a bit more the method?

Thanks,

Maria

You can actually add revision sequence as a field and have it sort by that then hide it in the schedule table. Save you from having to go by year, date, month convention.

Has anyone solved this issue yet? How do we get the schedule table to pick either P01, P02 then C01 for sheet Number 1 then PO1, C01 C02 for sheet Number 2?

Can you please elaborate on the process used for getting this done. Also are we compromising on the clouds related to these revisions? Its require urgently, if you can help us, it will be really appreciated.

This is extremely easy in Revit 2022.  You can have as many Sets as you wish.

I've just upgraded our model to 2022 to try this, however, it did seem to go well with P1, P2 then T1, T2 but when I put C1, C2, it puts it at the bottom, i.e. in alphabetical order rather than date order, is there a way around this anyone know?  At the moment I've put xC1 to make it go to the top of the list

Sort the revision schedule by Sequence.

Any possibility of a screenshot of that option, I don't seem to have one in the sheet issues/revisions schedule?
Cheers
