Issue with Revit 2020 Update 1 (Prompts to Uninstall)

Hello,

I am having issues running the Revit 2020.1 Update silently via command line within our IBM Bigfix script onto a base install of Revit 2020 (Display Version 20.0.0.377). I am prompted to Modify Setup with only two options, Uninstall and Close.

I have already opened a support ticket and was told during my support call that some updates will request to uninstall features from a base install of an Autodesk product and to try switching over to automatic updates via the Autodesk App. Since we support several hundred machines within our architectures enterprise environment that is simply not an option. I am looking into any possible solution to this issue as I have seen this problem referenced within other forums for 2019 and 2018 versions of Revit.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I never heard of what you stated from your support inquiry..  Not saying its not true but never heard that before..

If you go to Windows control panel/Programs and look at updates do you see that release?

Have you tried Microsoft Fixit?  https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17588/windows-fix-problems-that-block-programs-being-installed-or-removed

Thank you for posting.

Then make sure to review the release notes for the Revit 2020.1 Update before applying any updates the instructions on how to, are properly outlined in this document.

I'm not sure who you spoke to in support but that does not sound correct at all.  I have been working with the Revit installer for over a decade and we have never had a scenario were an update or hotfix would require the uninstall of a feature.

The more likely scenario is that this particular update, Revit 2020.1, was previously installed on this workstation and then Revit 2020 was uninstalled.  This is a known issue with Revit updates that we are currently investigating.  The underlying cause is that the uninstall of Revit does not remove the registry entry associated with the patch wrapper used to apply the update/hotfix.  I don't have an installation of Revit 2020 currently so I don't have the exact registry entry to be removed but it will be under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\ registry key.  From this key, search for "Autodesk Revit 2020.1" and you should find the GUID associated with the update/hotfix.  After this registry entry is removed, the Revit update/hotfix should install without a problem.

Hi Tony,

Thanks for the prompt reply and explanation. This issue is also impacting any new base Revit 2020 install, where we have not tried to apply the Revit 2020.1 update. Is there an ETA on this fix? Is this something that will be resolved before the end of the year? We currently just migrated over 100 end users to Revit 2020 and we want to be able to Patch those machines without having to utilize the above workaround.

Thanks!
