Issue with materials for families

I'm new to Revit and I still haven't figured out how the materials and renderings work. I was able to attach materials and have them all visible in 3D view. However, when I try and do a elevation, section cut, or plan view (in realistic style) they are all white. I have attached the files below. I'd appreciate any help or suggestions, Thank you!

In the Material Editor - in the Graphics tab - make sure that Use Rendering Appearance checkbox is checked.

I do have it checked. I have the same material on a few objects. In plan view it shows on some and not on others. I am more concerned with the elevation/ sections.

Is it the gray material on the chair that you are talking about?

Here is what happened - the Scoop chair family has Detail Items on the elevations and plan of the seat geometry - hence the funky material-less elevations. I selected the Detail Items and made then invisible at Fine display. Reloaded it into the model and elevations and plan with Fine display look great. 

Yes, unfortunately a LOT of manufacturer families come in with needless detail items covering the 3D geometry and creating problems with visualization in the model.

So far I have fixed the Scoop chair. Any other pieces of furniture having this issue - follow my suggestions above.

When I open your file I can see it fine. However when I try and do it in mine it doesn't work. How do I separate the details from the 3D geometry?

Make sure that your project is also open

In my file - select the chair.

Click Edit Family.

That will open the family - click Load into Project and select your project

This will overwrite the original family, and you should see the change

I did that and it worked for that specific chair. However I have a few
more pieces which I can't figure out.

Open the family. go to an elevation view. Click on the geometry. Properties will tell you what it is that you have selected - most probably it will be the Detail Item. Click on its visibility / graphics override and uncheck Fine per my screenshot.

What this will do is that it will hide the detail item in an elevation which has Fine display. (Or - just take the easy route and erase the detail item). Load the family back into the project. It should display correctly.
