Inaccurate calculated volume with In-Place-Mass

Hey, I have discovered a big issue with an inaccuracy with the calculated volume in the In-Place-Mass tool.

First I imported a solid form from Rhinoceros in the In-Place-Mass tool. Revit wasn't able to calcute the volume because the shape was to complex for Revit. Then I added a simple solid form, being still in the same In-Place-Mass process. This time Revit calculated the volume of the simple solid form. Then I edited the Mass again an deleted the simple solid form but after finishing it the calculated volume was the same as before. So now the false volume is clinging on my imported solid form. This doesn't happen when you do the same with two simple solid forms, I've already tried that.

So how can I avoid such inaccuracys? The only way to fix it that I found was to delete the whole mass an do it again.

First off the rhino object is not a solid so you cannot have any volume.  You may want to export it to a SAT file then import the SAT file in Revit.  You may also want to check  out the rhino inside revit plug in.

With that said, it doesn't explain the ghost volume but it may not have happened if one if the above method can give you a solid form in the first place.

Thanks for your reply, but I already used SAT format for import. The issue isn't about not having a propper solid, it's about the ghost volume. I think it's just a minor bug in Revit.

Would you mind sharing the .3dm and the .SAT files of that form?

The issue lies in the translation of the objects, surfaces and meshes between the 2 software. as well as the orientation. Previously we used Grasshopper and/or Dynamo but then Rhino introduced Rhino.inside.Revit to add that interoperability between Rhino and Revit

Hallo RDAU
Here's the SAT. 3DM is too large for emails and i can't share it in the forum either.

Greetings

Yeah, I get it, there are better ways to get a form from Rhino to Revit. But even though Revit shouldn't make such a mess with the volume.

SAT should come via Email

What you have exported is not a solid. It is a Mesh/Surfaces. Revit will not calculate a volume for that. This laptop doesn't have the plugin RinR but I do not believe in this case the plugin will help you either

You need to convert it (you can use either  Dynamo or grasshopper if you prefer to do it in Rhino)

Yeah, thanks for trying, but I know that Revit doesn't calculate the Volume from that form, I can work around that. The issue is with the ghost volume!

Good...but the ghost volume is not a problem. Overcome issue of the mesh form exported and you get rid of the ghost volume ... guaranteed

I am having same issue with in-place mass Gross Volume not being calculated correctly. I am creating volumes, and all of them are computing correctly. Then suddenly something happens that the gross volume just freezes and no matter what change to the mass shape/size the volume qty stays the same... very frustrating. Happened once to me and i just started deleting things until it started working again. but this time it seems to not want to work until i delete almose everything! there are no warnings that appear. The gross volume simply appears to cease updating! a

Yeah, very frustrating indeed. If you don't know about that issue it can cause so many inaccuracies.
