Imported IFC in wrong place inside Revit (correct in Solibri)

Hi fellas!

We have a problem with importing IFC files in one of our current projects.
The files end up in the right place when imported into Solibri, but in Revit it doesn't match the rest correctly.

I guess that it could be some problems with our Project Base Point and the Revit startup location (origin) being in different places? How should we fix this?

Thanks in advance!

@Marcus.Isacsson

Can you share the files, Revit version and journals to test on our end?

@Viveka_CD  Sure, I'll send a link a to you as a message here at the forums.
Where do I find the journals?

Why would you expect the IFC to land differently on placement in Revit?  Was the IFC originally exported from Revit  with Shared Coordinate System Components to IFC Site?   What is the genesis of the IFC?

@Marcus.Isacsson

journals can be found here:

These files are stored in the following folder: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Autodesk\Revit\<Product name and release>\Journals.

Looking forward to your files.

We don't expect them to land differently, this is the weird part.
If I import our IFC-model, MEP and construction it all lines up in Solibri. But in Revit it doesn't.

We've used two shared coordinate systems, one for local coordinates and one for geographic coordinates.

Is there a good solution to this? We have this same problem often in my company. Would appreciate some good feedback on this.

We have the same problem, and I think it has to do with the Revit Internal Origin...

We our Engineers have modeled the building at a different location relative to the Revit Internal Origin, so when we export our IFCs by Shared Coordinates, our models are in the same position in Solibri but when we link their IFC file into our Revit model (or they, ours) then the IFC comes in at the WRONG place.

What is the solution to this? How can we "Link IFC by Shared Coordinates"???

Thanks

Have you found a solution to this? We have the same problem in our office...

IFCs are in the correct position in Solibri - the wrong position in Revit.

When we like the Native Revit Files by Shared Coordinates, they are in the correct position.

However, our two collaborators have different Internal Origins, which is causing the discrepancy. I.e. when Revit links an IFC it can only link by Origin to Origin... what a disaster...

We have the same problem. Is there any solution to the ifc-import?

Hi everyone! Our solution was by using attached Dynamo script.
The script updates the selected IFC-file to using the shared coordinates. Or at least I think so, I'm not 100% sure to be honest. Feel free to try it out!

Perhaps load the IFC into a seperate revit project, move in position and link the rvt...? Apparently that's the method with point clouds anyway (non-related)...

This is kind a bug with Navisworks which disorient sometimes ifc from revit to wrong coordinates. Please uncheck below highlighted in File -->Option, uncheck Revit IFC

When you Link an IFC it's always Internal Origin to Internal Origin.

You can export to IFC with a different Origin (Survey Point, Project Base Point, etc.) , but Link is still strictly Internal Origin to Internal Origin.

There's an idea to vote for more options when Linking IFC, but not implemented so far. You know what to do...

Kudos to @Meelis123 for summing it up nicely

While linking IFC file we want to be able to choose between these options:

  1. IFC local coordinates to Internal Origin
  2. IFC local coordinates to Project Base Point
  3. IFC local coordinates to Survey Point
  4. IFC ifcSite coordinates to Internal Origin
  5. IFC ifcSite coordinates to Project Base Point
  6. IFC ifcSite coordinates to Survey Point
  7. Center to Center could be handy too

In my case the Level Building Story parameter was not checked.

Once I've checked the parameter the models locations were matching perfectly

Only Autodesk dares to ask you to vote something what is normal to other softwares.
