Imported Geometry Still not showing in Section Cuts

Anonymous

Hi Everyone,

I've been going around in circles trying to get imported geometry to show in cut sections and plans. I've read countless threads and tried multiple methods but it seems to me like its just a software bug?

Steps

- Import the geometry as IN-PLACE-MASS (also tried importing as Generic Mass Family too)

- Draw Sections

- Turn on Mass Visibility (in all views and tested by using templates VG as well)

- Double Checked Cut planes + Extents + View Depth etc

The Result - The imported mass shows in 1 section only but not in any other sections (including plans). In the other sections the mass disappears entirely when it is cut. When the mass is not cut it re-appears (like an elevation view).

Any help would be greatly appreciated - Revit file attached for reference.

Wow, must be a graphics card issue on my end?

I just brought a new PC (quite well spec'd) but have not yet updated the graphics card. My machine currently has a Quadro K1200 (Driver version 382.05).

I'm surprised a Quadro card would perform badly even though it is a low end one. I will look for some driver updates to see if that fixes the problem.

Thanks for getting back to me ToanDN

Try turning off hardware acceleration see if it helps.  Also, toggle between Show Mass by View Settings and Show Mass Form and Floors (I didn't have to do it).

Downloaded latest nVidia driver and turned-off hardware acceleration and still got the same results - absent mass (in cut sections only). Also toggled between show mass too which works fine but the mass still doesn't show in sections. I'm not sure how to fix this besides buying a new graphics card that is certified by Autodesk. I'm quite perplexed such a fundamental problem could occur (program not showing objects - kind of catastrophic failure of a program).

My videocard isn't certified either - GeForce 1060.  I can see how the file open in my home laptop with the 7 year old Geforce 550M videocard.

Quadro K1200 is quite popular so I am surprised if it is the culprit.

I asked a lot of my university friends to try this file and they all said the the mass was missing in their sections as well. They all had different hardware but a common denominator was that they were all using Windows 10. I'm trying to find someone who is running Windows 7 to see of that is the issue.

Well it shows up correctly on my 7 year old laptop with a crappy videocard (running Windows 10 Home Premium).

Thanks for the reply ToanDN,

I'm at a loss as to what to do. I thought by turning off hardware acceleration that would negate any video card issues but that does not seem like the case. The fact that you can easily view the sections suggests that there's nothing wrong with the file, so I'm guessing its my system but I've got no idea how to debug this one.

Any other suggestions you may know of?

Really appreciate you help too. Double kudos.

I don't know.  Try these two files see if they work for you.  I export the mass to a SAT file and re-import the SAT file in as a Mass (no need to create a model in place mass) in one file, and as a Generic model in another.

Thanks, both files worked as expected and showed up in all sections, however there is no control over the material and cut pattern for geometry imported directly this way and materials have no effect. I'd be happy to be proved wrong here!

As soon as I import the geometry through In-place-mass or as a family the mass doesn't show at all.

Cheers, Peter

I can take a look at it tomorrow. One more thing I would try to your original file, disassociate a section from the View template, turn on mass and import categories directly for the view.

Try this file.  Change Show Mass by View Settings to Show Mass Form and Floors to avoid any VG hickups.

I think I'll try it with different geometry.

Thanks for you persistence. I'll respond here if I ever find a cause.

Cheers

Hi @Anonymous

I just wanted to follow up here, any progress on this issue?

If you were not able to resolve your issue send us a journal file to troubleshoot further.

Can you also check your virtual memory - more information HERE

Please mark any posts that help with "Accept as Solution" and thanks!

Hi Viveka_CD,

I was unable to find a solution to this problem - imported geometry was not showing up in cut sections. Some nice people who tested the file had mixed results, some said it worked fine but many others said the geometry was missing on their system too.

File is attached.

My hardware seems up to date;

Revit 2017

Windows 10 Pro (V 10.0.15063 Build 15063)

nVidia K1200 Graphics Card (latest nvidia driver)

Intel Xeon CPU E5-1650 v3 @3.50GHz 6 Core (12 Logical)

16 GB Ram

Hi @Anonymous

It's been a while and I'm just checking back on this post. How is everything working out?

I've tested on another machine and it's working for me, I just wanted to verify.

I have sent a utility to your email to collect files to troubleshoot further. Please let me know if you were able to upload the files.

Also, I would require Ia journal file to troubleshoot further. Thanks for sharing your Revit model.

Looking forward to your reply update.

Regards,

Works fine for me just as you posted it. Didn't need to change anything.

Revit 2018.2

Windows 7 Pro

Quadro 4000, yeah I've got two of them, but your newer k1200 should be better in every way.
