How to schedule attached revit links INSIDE revit links

Background:

We are working on a HUMONGOUS revit model which we had divided into many smaller, manageable divisions for easier operation.

Whenever we issue any document to the teams therefore, we have made a habit of adding a schedule of revit models with their latest revision and issue dates so the team can know exactly which models have been referenced for each set of documents.

due to the size of our resulting models, we divided the model into levels, with shell and cores model being common to all levels but the architectural elements and MEPF divided into levels and further divided into their respective departments (we had different specialist consultant for each department).

Situation:

in order to develop sections across some MEPF rooms and shafts, we had to build models that combined more than a few levels, however since each level entailed linking around 50 revit links each, we just linked the revit files where we had previously linked the revit models by level for example,  a revit file for level 01 where all the models for level 01 were linked previously, and so on.

Problem:

Although this resolved our essential issue i.e. that of creating the sections themselves, when we make schedules for ALL the revit links in the model, our schedule just shows the revit links DIRECTLY linked in that specefic model and not all the revit links attached in the level-wise linked models.

Attaching a screenshot of the schedule we are currently getting. what we essentially need is to somehow replace these level-wise link names with the multitude of links we attached to these level-wise links.

Thanks in advance.

Hi there,

If I understand correctly, I think you need to change the Reference Type to Attach instead of overlay. In the attached image the Unit Plan is "attached" into North Wing.rvt. When North Wing.rvt is linked into the Master. rvt, the Unit Plan.rvt displays as a link in the schedule even though it does not display in the Manage Links dialog. I'm not sure what that will do to the performance of the master file, but it should make the schedule work.

Hello there,

Thanks for responding, but this does not solve the issue. you see, i have already attached the models like i wrote in the background and the models are showing in the model and the components inside those links inside links are showing in any item schedules we make.

Our problem arises when we start making schedules of links inside a revit model. despite the fact that the links inside the links are set as attachments instead of overlays, the schedule does not show the links inside.

You can see a screenshot of the file structure we already have. Ideally we want to see ALL these files inside these expandable links as well as their respective revision numbers and revision dates.

Once again, Thanks in advance

Ah, sorry about that and thanks for the clarification, I made an assumption that you are using the RVT Link as your schedule type and that the problem was in getting them to appear, rather than in getting the parameter values to display.

It would greatly help if you could send screenshots of the schedule properties and of the sorting tab. I cannot tell from the schedule if this is a sheet-based schedule or a schedule of RVT Links (for example). I also cannot tell much about your custom properties. I assume they are shared parameters attached to sheet elements, but they could also be built-in properties with modified schedule headers. Understanding which data types you are using and how you are sorting should help. Often the sorting is the culprit.

Cheers,

Here's a video example of what I mean by the "type of data" and also an example of a Revit schedule oddity that I discovered - perhaps this is the problem you are seeing?? Are you using RVT Links, Sheet, or Level data in your schedule?

Hi,

So basically this is a multi category schedule with no filters whatsoever. just a sorting element added so that we at least get the revit files alphabetically. it also helps that all our revit files are aptly named to follow an arithmetically progressive sequence by level.

Cheers 😄

Thanks for the screenshots. Please make these changes to your schedule, then re-post the image of the schedule.

Add the "Category" property to the schedule. I want to know if we are talking about data that lives on a RVT Link element or some other element.

On the Sorting tab, make each of the schedule properties a sort by field.

I made a video showing what might be the issue, but even though it's an approved Autodesk screencast I'm being prevented from listing the screencast URL here. Feel free to message me privately if that helps.

Hi

Could you show me how you created the rvt links schedule with revision number and date ?

Was this solved? I am also needing to schedule items from "links within links".
