How to rotate annotation text

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi,

Is there a simple way to control the rotation of annotation text?

I found the following options for the "Read Convention" parameter in the corresponding dimension style family:

Text > Read Convention: Horizontal / Up, then Left / Up, then Right / Left, then Up / Right, then Up

But as the Viewports have been rotated themselves[1], these options do not work as needed...

One way I could imaging to solve this problem would be a type parameter "Text Rotation" which would allow to rotate the annotation texts individually...

Any idea how to solve this problem?

Thanks for you help,

Dietrich

[1]  One of the viewports was rotated by 90 degree counterclockwise via the Viewport "Rotation on Sheet" type parameter;  the other one by using a callout and rotationg it by 180 degree:

Hi,

Please try the following steps and let me know if this works for your annotation:

1st step
1. Edit family
2. Then go to "Family Category and Parameters"
3. Make sure "Maintain Annotation Orientation" is checked.

2nd step
1. While in the family select the annotation family within the family and click edit family again
2. Once in the annotation family go to "family category and parameters" again and make sure "Keep text readable" is checked.
3. Load annotation family back into family then load the family back into your project.

Regards,

Viveka

Edit Family button only appears when you select a family (I guess they were talking about editing Annotation families such as Tags, Symbols, etc...).  What are you trying to rotate?

Ok so I have Annotative Multileaders, I am using Civil 3D 2018. I have viewports on two different sheets. Each viewport is on a different rotation. The leaders and text size correctly changed but I need the text to rotate to the UCS of each viewport. I tried UCS>V. But that didn't work.

I feel the question was not answered fully, or the accepted solution's explanation is too short and not specific.

When rotating a view the Annotation text also rotates. There are only few possible orientations for the text in revit, if we were to play with that parameter. Anyways, the text should follow the rule independent of the rotation of the view...
The option "keep it readable" should somehow affect it according to the sheet view.

(This doesnt work only in elevations or sections. The floorplan's view can be rotated inside the view, and the annotations will rotate with it accordingly).

From what I understand, you've rotated the view on the sheet. And now you need the text annotations to be able to rotate whatever angle of rotation you want?

I don't know if this is what you need, but what worked for my situation, was unchecking the "Keep Readable" checkbox from the Properties Tab with text annotation selected. Then, I could rotate my annotation however I've wanted.

Hope this helps, have a nice day

(In Revit-2022)

Step-1:

Select the Annotation TEXT

(You will see a box around the text)

Step-2:

On corners of the box, you will see two operation icons. ROTATE and MOVE icons.

Step-3:

Simply pick the ROTATE icon and drag to rotate to the desired angle. The text will rotate.

Thats it!

ivanov_emilian,

Thank you.

I was having the same problem and tried to uncheck the box, but it didn't seem to do anything.

But after I unchecked it and applied it, then went to my test box, I was able to rotate it to what I needed.

Great fix !!
