Save some elements from a Project as a Family

Hi all,

I was given a RVT file to use in an integrated model. These elements are not located in the right place. They are different types of stairs, created with walls, slabs and stair functions.

I have tried several operations:

1 directly moving the elements to the right position: not working properly. I get many errors

2 create model groups and move them to the right position: Works, but with some elements gives errors when changing the position and our workflow is not smooth

3 separate them as we need and link the RVT files separately: not working properly

4 export each stair as CAD and create a new family: Works ok but would be not editable (not possible to explode a 3D cad element)

The ideal situation would be to select the elements separately and convert each group to a family, in order to have at the end 20 families instead of a single revit project file.

Do somebody have an idea of how to solve this?

Thanks a lot!

Is it not better to return the project to the other party and ask for modifications?

Some families like stairs, walls and floors are system families. They are not loadable families so they only can exist in a project.

You will have to find how they have been created and edit those inside the project. They also might have been constrained/locked to other objects giving you issues with moving (you might use reveal constraints button).

Loadable families in the project you can edit them and save them somewhere else.

Not the preferred method but....Depending on what you have and what you exactly need you could delete parts of that project file and then save it. Repeat this for other parts of the project. Then you could link in the different parts and position them

Please mention Revit version, especially when uploading Revit files.
