How to delete shared/project parameter from family instances?

Anonymous
Not applicable

I need to clean up some shared parameters to my project - but cannot. Unwanted parameters are removed from Project Parameters and Shared Parameters, but they are still "binded" to family instances.
Is there a way to get rid of them?

Image after deleting parameter - it's greyed out and locked, but still appears to all Windows.

Anyhelp would be much appreciated.

Edit the window family and delete the parameter in the family editor

Delete that parameter in the family editor then only you won't get any parameter in the project.

Thank you.

Many Thanks for your reply Kuberan. Unfortunately, this parameter does not show up in the family editor.

Is it from a Key Schedule?

I didn't solve this issue fully, but it appears that when you delete them one by one, only the last one remains.

Thus I deleted all of the unwanted Project Parameters, but the "last one" still remains in the family, as on the previous screen.

Thanks for input!

It's not in the Key Schedule, and these parameters are not included in any fields to Schedules anymore.

Are they showing in the Family Typ in the Family Editor as @Ilic.Andrej showed? Why can't you remove them from them? Grayed out?

That parameter does not show up in the Family Type editor.

It looks like its only in the Project where the family is loaded, as the parameter was added by Manage-> Project Parameters - added from Shared Parameters file.

But then you should be able to go again to Manage-> Project Parameters and delete it.

I am missing something :S

My thoughts exactly!
So did I.

The issue is: that deleted parameter still remains in the family instances, and is greyed out as on the attached image.

To more surprise, when I deleted more paramaters, only the last one remains - others are removed.

For example, when I delete parameter P1, P2, P3, then P1 and P2 are succesfully removed from the project, but P3 is still listed and greyed out.

May it be in use in a Tag? In the family or already in the proyect. If you load this family in another proyect are the parameters there? That would mean that has to be something realated with the family. Could you then share it?

@M_PerezThank you. These parameters are not referenced in any tags or schedules anymore.

 also,

@M_Perez@Sahay_RThe family itself, when loaded to another project, doesn't have this parameter associated - see images attached. Therefore I guess it's still the issue within the project file.

@Anonymous - are you sure that the parameter that you have highlighted does not exist in your Project Parameters? Please check.

That would discard a problem in the family for me too.

Do you have the same parameter in other Windows in the proyect?

@Sahay_RYes, that parameter is deleted from Project Parameters, and is not listed there.

@M_PerezThe parameter is in all Windows in the project which were placed before deletion of that parameter.

New instances of the same family do not have that paramater. Reloading family does not help, even with parameter override option.

If you make a new instance from the family, has the parameter too?

I'm running out of ideas. If you are willing to share your project (you can rip it out first) we could try to take a look.

Unfortunately I cannot share the file - office policy.

As mentioned above, new instances of the same family do not have that old parameter. It looks as if it was stucked in the old instances.

"old' instance of the family - deleted parameter still exists"old' instance of the family - deleted parameter still existsnew instance of the same family- deleted parameter succesfully removednew instance of the same family- deleted parameter succesfully removed

I guess the solution would be then to delete all windows and replace them.. But it's more than a thousand windows, so I would kindly say this method is not preferred.

@M_PerezNo worries. I just hope I might find an answer to that someday. Many thanks for your input anyway!

Then you have your solution!

Replace your family with any other an then replace them again with the desired one.

@Viveka_CD (didn't know who to mention) I guess it is a bug that should be reported. More cases can be found online:
