How can I have doors and windows with draggable width?

I need to add doors and windows to a model based on a point cloud, and because I am dealing with large buildings, there is a lot of variation in door and window widths.

I know that I can duplicate the types and edit properties to create new windows and doors with custom dimensions, but given the amount of variation we're dealing with it would simply take too much time to do for every window or door.

What would be really useful is if I could simply place a window or door then resize it by dragging one edge, the same as is possible with walls.

Please can you advise on how this can be achieved?

just enter in the door family and change the width parameter, from type parameter to an instance parameter.

I don’t think that is possible in revit. My suggestion is keyin all the dimension you need LxW in your window family, once you load in your project just change the type with correct dimension of your window and drag it in the position you like. just saying thanks

By default the parameters of dimensions of doors and windows are blocked as type by the own family, if you want to change these parameters to instance you will have to change the category of the family, in this example I changed the to a generic model family, This leaves the dimension parameter free to change, so I changed it to instance, after I changed the family type to the door again, then the parameter became lock as instance.

Change dimension parameters from type to instance on doors and window family
