How can I export only the core portion of my walls? I don't want to export gypsum board or furring or exterior finish (See image).

Thanks for your guidance!

You cant by default....

couple options if you absolutely need to do it:

Parts:

  1. You can make the walls into Parts and hide the wall elements you don't want.

Copy Monitor: https://autode.sk/3kVdtrr

  1. place all walls on a Workset
  2. Create a workset for the core wall
  3. Copy Monitor the walls.
  4. in the Options, pick Core Centerline for the location line
  5. for the Original/New pick the core type and size
  6. once placed, turn off the worksheet the original wall is on.

Trace:

  1. trace the core of the wall with a new wall.
    • preferably on a different workset.

@johnwPerhaps you have a use for override Host Layer Line styles. You could think of combining it using Design options/edited wall type/Line work ie. (for 2d export)...

@barthbradley  LOL, that's funny, I've actually never seen that Bob Mackay trick before.  figures someone else figured it out too, and back in 2012. i figured it out a while back when one my structural engineer was inquiring about the same issue.

People come up with same ideas all the times. Some choose to make a fuss when it happens.

Here is a post in the past using the copy/monitor method, also with a screencast.

Why not duplicate the wall type and delete the finishes and shear? Quickly export and then hit ctr z to undo the change.

Seems like an easier and quicker solution. You would need to of course lock dimensions at the core face of the framing. The walls would need to be drawn with the location line set to exterior core. Might not be easier if you have to redraw the walls with the proper location lines.

@barthbradley  Using the previous method, will I then be able to export a 3D dwg file with just the cores?
