From ArchiCAD to Revit

Hello all,

We have a big project with multiple level and we want to model the structural part in Revit. The architects have alredy do the architectural part in ArchiCAD and also the structural walls (they created compounded walls like concrete + insulation etc.)

Which is the better way to work with the Archicad model?

As the project is big, is there any way to use their structural elements or we need to re-design our structural elements?

Do you usually ask the architects to tranfer you a model with only the structural elements that they have as far create?

Thank you in advance!

Normally the structural engineer has the responsibility to draw all structural elements. As a structural engineer I would not take the structural elements from an architect but draw a model myself.

As an architect, it is sometimes beneficial to draw also the structural parts (normally we do that on a separate workset). Because the model of a structural engineer is not always up to date. That way we can still extract drawings.

@Avaris.  ,

Thank you for your answer,

So will you use the architectiral model as a reference only? It is a tone of work.

In Revit what workflow will you follow?

  • When I import the IFC I get a lot of errors and I delete some elemnts (see picture below)
  • When Link te IFC I need to create the level by myself and the elements are not represent correct (image 2)
  • If I link the DWG file the walls have a solid fill pattern so I cannot easily design only the structural part.

Thank you in advance !

At least you want your elements in a native format. So you want Revit elements, that is one reason to draw them yourself. That way the elements do belong to your own company standard. Second reason is that drawing elements yourself will already give you a better understanding of the building.

I think quality is more important than spending less time. Just make sure you get paid for drawing the elements.

You can bring a .dwg to the background, does that help?

'Just make sure you get paid for drawing the elements.'

Yes this is a question that we need to pose for sure. Because if not we will lose a lot of time.

We dont have our own standard in Revit yet.

In the .dwg the walls appears with a solid hatch so I cannot distinguish the structural part of the wall, in order to draw them having the .dwg as background.

The architects normally give to enginners a model only with the structural part that they have alredy created ? or they can give them their whole model?

Thank  you.
