Family - Changing Ref.Level 0

Hi all,

First of all, I'm new to revit and self-taught so i may not be entirely familiar with certain terms or functions. I would appreciate if you could elaborate and provide more details in your response.

The problem i have is that when i load my family (a box like item with adjustable legs) into a project, the 'legs' will load inside the ground. The issue i believe is that i drew the base of the item before adding the adjustable legs at the end. I've tried to set the XYZ as origin but that doesn't solve my problem.

e.g. the base of the box is on Ref.Level 0 and the legs are below Ref.Level 0

How do i change the reference place to set a new Ref.Level 0 of my choice? Or is there a simpler/alternate method to achieve what i need? -> load the item into the project where the adjustable legs (by parameter) will be placed on the floor surface and not inside/below the floor level.

Indeed, looking in the family editor the legs are below the reference level.

The cleanest solution would be to remodel the family so that the legs end up on top of the ref level instead of below it.

This only should take a few minutes to do.

For a quick and dirty solution you could place it in a project and then give it a slight offset (Here 100 mm instead of 10 mm)

Please mention Revit version, especially when uploading Revit files.

Thank you for the quick reply.

Remodeling this particular item will be quick. But this was an exercise to learn and familiarize myself with revit family. I figured that there should be a way to change/edit the reference level 0 to achieve what i need.

The quick and dirty solution you mentioned is also not entirely practical should i need to insert multiple unit into the project and therefore need to adjust/offset each and everyone everytime.

I find it hard to believe such a powerful tool will require me to remodel the entire family everytime a shortsighted mistake regarding reference planes are made.

Thanks for the advice.

Unfortunately, aligning the legs to the ref.level 0 will not work as the base of the box is already align and lock to the ref.level 0.

I could however, create a new reference plane above level 0 and realign and lock the base to the new reference place then align the legs to ref level 0.

Is there a way to view which extrusion or what is locked to a particular reference plane?

You can select the ref plane right click on any locked symbol that might appear and select show related. that will show what is attached with that lock. select show in the diolouge box to reveal contents.

The easiest way to fix without remodeling the model is nesting it inside another family, align the bottom to the level's ref plane, and associate the parameters.
