Flip control not working on face based hosted family

Hi folks,

I have a very simple but annoying issue with flipping a curtain wall that is host to a face based structural framing.

When hitting the flip button of the curtain wall the face based hosted structural framing gets mad and does not follow the flip in any way.

I already tried to place flip controls also in the hosted family but no result.

Does anyone know why?

Looks like a sweep isn't constrained properly.

Why are you making a curtain wall family instead of using an actual curtain wall?  It might work better being workplane based vs Face Based.

Is it not easier to have curtain wall types and mullion types in a project, instead of making a family that represents a curtain wall?

Hi @Alfredo_Medina and @Anonymous.

Sure it is a lot easier to use an actual curtain wall, but my issue is that I need to control the mullion length very specifically, and they should not be related to the actual curtain grid, because my company need to use them to dimension the real pieces for production.

Therefore I am actually using the Revit Curtain Wall for the panels and vertical mullions, just adding on top and below a custom structural framing; its just a curtain wall with no horizontal mullion.

For example we might need a mullion that goes in the middle of the door like shown in example.

@Anonymous when u say "It might work better being workplane based vs Face Based." you mean that I should make a work plane based family for the mullion? Or that the Revit curtain wall is workplane based?

Anyway I am open to suggestion on how to manage this issue.

I still think it is too complex to do this as a family, trying to get all the possible situations. What you are trying to do is called a "super-family", families that try to have all possible variations of an object. At the end, the family becomes heavy,  difficult to edit, and difficult to use, by yourself and by others

It is possible to get quantities of mullions using schedules. It involves some formulas and some custom parameters, but it is possible.

You know you can nest a curtain wall as a panel of another curtain wall, right? One curtain wall only has the top and bottom horizontal mullions, add vertical grids to what ever dimension of the actual door assembly and change the empty panel to the curtain wall type where you have the door and the sidelite.

I know someone that has been detailing curtain walls in Revit for years and never did anything like you are trying to do.

Stop by revitforum.org and chat with Dave if you have questions.  I'd tag him here but his browser doesn't work with the Autodesk forums.

Hi @ToanDN, I know that feature, but still is a bit too constraining for me. Because I need to set specific rules for the mullions, for example that the upper one has to be extruded 7 mm outside the corner of the curtain grid; and so many custom cases. But I will have a deeper look to the nested curtain wall.

@Anonymous The Dave you mean in Revit Forum is the Dave Jones?

Fair enough.  Still, I don't understand the relationship between the face based family hosted on a structural frame and the curtain wall.  From what you described they are independent then flipping the curtain wall should not affect the family.  Am I getting it wrong?
