Family Dimensions Change Result in Error

Good afternoon,

I'm new to Revit and have been trying to re-create a family.  I've recreated the family similar to the original, which is attached.

I'd like to change the segment height to attributes attached, when loaded and placed in a project file. In the family that I created when the height is changed to 60 Ft errors show up.

The segment height in the original family when placed in project can be changed to 60 Ft without issues. I'm not sure what I'm missing.

I'd really appreciate it if someone can help me resolve this. Thank you very much for your help.

Neither of the two families is a telescopic pole like in the jpg image. With that angle and that thickness 1/4" ,I am not a blend or a revolve will break when over stretched ...60' !!

Look at it this way...in real life, what are the odds to find a 60' pole with 1/4" skin thickness and that diameter?

My suggestion, model it in sections / telescopic similar to that in your jpg image

The tiny angle ~0.02 degree when the pole reaches 60' probably exceed Revit calculating capability.  In reality, if the height increases, the base diameter should also increase proportionally to maintain the rigidity of the pole.

...I think you were just missing the sketch path. I pathed Sweep Blends along an invisible Model Line that's Aligned/Locked to bottom and top Ref. Planes. See attached.

Here's a telescoping one - nested 3 deep - that will extent to 3 times the Segment Height.  "OA Height" controls overall height.  You can add more nested tubes into this family by repeating exactly what I have done for the first and second tubes.

Note: Ignore "Overlapping" Message when it pops up.  It won't be throw in the Project environment.

Good one, that slipped my mind...using a Swept Blend instead of Blend or Revolve could constrain it better...I'll give you a kudo for that 🙂

I still prefer the telescopic solution though more durable and realistic

Thank you for your response, I have a question, the original family that I was trying to create when loaded in an .rvt file can be changed to the dimensions as attached. Blend function has been used for this.

Original's Top and Base were aligned and locked to Ref. Planes.  I don't think your was.  If you select yours and try to drag the Top or Bottom Shape Handle, does it lengthen/shorten the extrusion, or does Revit throw an error?

I wouldn't suggest that approach anyways. I would use a Sweep Blend with a path sketched along an Invisible Model Line (that is Aligned/Locked to driving Ref. Planes) as I described (and attached) my first post.  Definitely makes troubleshooting easier.
