Exporting 3d Views & Section Boxes from Revit to Navis Manage

Anonymous

I have views in Revit 2017 that are cropped with section boxes. I want to use the same cropped views in Navis Manage 2017. Is this possible? How would I do it? Our office has access to pretty much the entire product line so if there's a better way to get the desired result I'm open to that.

I used BIM 360 Glue to export a model I imported into Navis. That imported all the views as Viewpoints but none of them have sectioning enabled. They are also zoomed out.

So far I export each individual 3d view and it's model geometry as a .DWF. I append it to the Navis file. I Enable Sectioning, select the .dwf, Fit Selection, and right click to update the Viewpoint so it's cropped.

I'm hoping there's a better way....I've got about 300 views.

@Anonymous From Revit, export to .nwc from a 3d view.  In Navisworks, append the .nwc file, then open the Saved Viewpoints window. All the 3d views that you had in Revit will be there, in the 3d folder, even if they are 300 views. The views that were having a section box in Revit will display exactly like that in Navis.

Could you help me troubleshoot why the above method isn't producing the described results?

My Revit coordination file has 12 trades and designers files linked in.

I've opened an overall 3d view with all the linked files visible. This particular view is not cropped as it shows the entire extents of the site. Exported to .NWC.

I append the .NWC to a blank Navisworks Manage file.

The views are in the Saved Viewpoints menu. When selected, none of the views "crop" to the 3d section boxes in the Revit file. They pan to the general location and zoom out to the extent of the site.

Attached are my .NWC export settings. Could you please take a look?

Matthew,

At the moment, I can't determine which settings makes the difference. Sorry about that. I remember seeing that after exporting from Revit to Navis, having a view with section box and another view without it, I obtained the same result in Navisworks. But now that I am trying again today, it is not working. If I find the answer later I will add more information to this thread.

Thanks @Alfredo_Medina. I tried changing "Export" to "Entire Project" from "Current View". It's been exporting for over an hour and I imagine the resulting file will be very large. Maybe it'll work!

I don't think that the views will 'crop' as they did in Revit because Navis looks at the entire project.

Turn off worksets / categories in the 3D views to export whatever it is that you need Navis to see. I have set up dedicated 3D views controlled by a view template that only shows the worksets and categories that I want Navis to see in our template.

Hi @Anonymous

Can you share a file with us to test further? I can send you a private folder to upload.

Let me know.

Hi @Anonymous

I found a similar discussion HERE which explains that Navisworks does not support sectioned views from Revit.

If you can share a file, and specify the importance of this feature, I can forward this to the development team. let me know.

I look forward to your reply update.

Hi @Viveka_CD, I can do that. The files are quite large though....the designers files total around 2GB. I could do that after this .NWC finishes exporting. It's been at 48% for awhile now. My company has a Glue account for the project, though I haven't uploaded models to it yet (we use Box for now). Want me to use that?

Ah, thanks for letting me know. I'll continue spending some time to see if I can get those views by extracting the Section Boxes geometry with Dynamo and fitting the views to that geometry in Navis. It's been my manual workaround so far.

Hi @Anonymous

I've shared a private folder link to your email registered on your profile.

You can also add your project to the BIM 360 glue account.

Let me know if you have trouble accessing the folder. We will need a journal as well.

I know it has been a while with this. My question is, is there anyway to turn this feature off? I dont want all these viewpoints for every nwc

Is there a way to only get the active 3D-view in Revit as a viewpoint in the exported NWC?

I don't want to open the NWC, delete the unwanted viewpoints there and then save as a NWD.

Me, and many others, often have a lot of 3D-views in the Revit-models but you don't want them all in the NWC-export so it would be great if there could be a function in the nwc-exporter where it is possible to select.

Or maybe it is possible to way to solve this in the API?
