hello, I have created a stair in revit and the railing is generated automatically. Please bear with me on this as ive not really used the stair function much over the years.
My problem is i need to remove a section of the railing (at the end of the landing as it is at the door to the building) but it keeps giving me the message "The Railing line must be a single connected Sketch. If you want separate pieces of Railing, create two or more separate Railings."
I think i know that it cannot remove the railing because it is hosted to the perimiter of the landing, but i cannot get a work around for this one =(
I was thinking doing the handrails all manually but that seems like a long workaround!
If anyone has any ideas I would be grateful.
Thanks, Jon
Edit sketch and remove segments until you are left with a single continuous string. Finish. Add railing attached to the stair again and repeat edit sketch to create the rest. You may need to do it several times depends on how broken your railing are.
No. What I am saying is you have to create a separate railing for each continuous string of segments. If you you need to break a railing at a door, you need two railings.

You cannot close out of sketch mode because you have overlapping sketch lines.
Hello, I gave this a shot today and it would not work - I think because my stair is a kind of double switchback stair meaning that all the sketch lines are overlapping/on top of each other. Doing the method suggested it was not working, trying to delete some of the lines and leave others in is impossible when they overlap because you do not know which one is which. It is looking like it needs completely put in manually - fine for the landings but the flights will not tie in aspart of the continuous sketch line (stair1.pdf) meaning the need to be done separately, which looks terrible
Please note that this is a bog standard stair with no modification at all. Also when you create this stair from scratch an error appears saying the lines overlap, I have pasted the message that appears when finishing the stair initially - I assume this is cause of the problem.
I did try the method you kindly suggested and this works fine for this type of stair.
Many thanks for your assistance with this one, it is greatly appreciated.
Cheers, Jon
Can you create separate pieces of railing? I did try to cut the railing with voids, then with void families - no go.
Why don't you just do the upper landing as a separate? Blow the landing out of the first stair sketch and it will get rid of the it's railing as well. Then you can just add segments to the existing railing to wrap the new landing as desired.
Edit the existing rails to wrap the new landing, and you shouldn't have an issue. You'll be adding to a continuous rail.
