Errant callout tags

I have a callout tag that behaves beautifully, with the middle horizontal line staying horizontal - but in this particular project, the horizontal line turns vertical. When I hover over it - or view it in wireframe, I can see a horizontal as well as a vertical line. The horizontal line, BTW, is from the two semicircular masking regions that have been created.

Has anyone run into this before? I have checked the family, recreated from an OOTB family, done everything - but the horizontal line ALWAYS comes in vertical. But when I take the same family into another - or a new - project, it behaves flawlessly!

PS - also - if I edit and reload the family, the view does not show the edited family, it only shows the old family. HELP!!

Make sure the View Type is using the correct Symbol family.

Hiya Rina. Can you post the family? Maybe we can use the rubber hose on it to get it to cooperate.  Smiley Wink

@ToanDN - yes it is. But the project still insists on showing the old family. When I hover over the tag, the new family lights up under the old family.

@barthbradley - you got it. It really looks like there is something in the project that is creating the problem, but go ahead - have fun

Can you share a screenshot of the Callout View Type properties, and a screenshot of the Symbol family type listed in the Browser?

This family is only for Plan/Detail Callouts. What you show is a section Callout, it must be using a different symbol family.

Open a proper project, edit the view type and see what symbol is used for View type's section tag, then load that family in this project and use it for the Drafting view type's section tag.

Change Family  from Callout Head Category to Section Mark Category.

So I have been editing the wrong family altogether? In that case, here is the family for the correct bubble - (and it still looks bad in the view)

Try this.  But I would advise again using a masking region in a Section mark family.

Yep. Because when I edited the family that I sent you, then it changed all my nice and polite building sections too!

@ToanDN - remind me - we use the dashed text line trick to keep the horizontal line horizontal right? Or is it the other way around? The main problem with that trick is that it does not look correct on the sheet

Also - the family you sent me - turned vertical again...

Why don't you make the Masking region invisible and trace the boundary with visible detail lines?

Because they are all using the same family for their Section mark symbol. The mask will rotate following the section direction and there is no draw order to send it behind the horizontal line. That's why when people need a mask, they have to use a string of text ______ for the horizontal line in lieu of a symbolic line. Text always stay on top so it isn't masked by the masking region.

By the way, what I sent you should work for horizontal and vertical sections only.  The reason it doesn't work for you because you open the family from my file but did not close the existing family so you essentially till in the same old family.  Close your existing family, then edit the family from my project to open it and load in your project and it should work.

Here is the family with text line.

Still, I would get rid of the masking region, or use a ______ text string for the line over a full circle mask, not two halves.

@ToanDN that's what I had started with - the text string that always stays horizontal - but it doesn't read correctly in plans.

@barthbradley - I think that is what I will end up doing.....

How does it look incorrectly?  Can you show a pic?

@ToanDN - here you are. The dashes are obvious - also, not enough control over lineweight. This solution flew at my previous job, not here....

That is because the text type you use is too small. You can play with it to get the matching graphic.

@ToanDN - so you would suggest using a really large text type to have maybe one dash cover the circle?
