Equal spacing BETWEEN objects of different sizes. Think window mullions

I'm ok with the equal feature for simple situations but wondering if there is a down and dirty way to make dimensions between objects the same for differing sized objects.

I have a bank of storefront windows between different sized columns/ mulls and would like the distance BETWEEN the columns/ mulls to be the same. If I go center to center it will not work because the distance between the elements will be different.

I tried dimensioning face to face of "mull", locking the mull dimensions and then setting the equal parameter but that didn't work.

Hopefully there is a solution to this because I have to do this relatively frequently.

Anyone?

That's freaking awesome Mike. Thanks for sharing. So straightforward and will definitely come in handy (just as soon as I can figure out how to convert the units to imperial lol).

Thanks.

As mentioned could possibly work for my situation..... and would get me a lot more familiar with storefront.

The column reference line is working ok but it's not without it's issues. Will PROBABLY be easiest to have a separate family for each size column in this case (which, yeah, kind of defeats the purpose of the family in the first place) because that reference line is going to show up in all the various size columns in the family and will only make sense for the column being used/ needed.

So, going to back peddle a little and try working with the storefront only.

Out of curiousity, how would you see yourself using the info that you can get with the spreadsheet in a situation like I have.

Would you just do your calcs with the spread sheet and dimension in plan to those dimensions? Just scrap the whole idea of equal constraints and use this method (not unlike vanilla cad). Etc.

Yeah for a situation where you have a bunch off different size and counts of columns and you want them all to have equal spacing between using the EQ dimension wont work as there is too many variables so I would use the spread sheet to figure out my spacing between and then manually move them.

It basically just makes finding the value straight forward.

Yes. That's what I'm thinking as well and figured you were doing. Wish I would have had this a LONG time ago with cad for sure.

The way I'm working this now with editing the family with reference points is really working out well so far. Only 3 different size columns so have no idea if will work for 4+ but made quick work of some walls once I got it sorted out and incoroporated into the family.
