Different behaviors between 2016 and 2017 when importing SAT in Revit

When I import a SAT in a Revit 2016 conceptual mass, I can create a divided surface from the SAT geometry.  But when I import the same SAT in a Revit 2017 conceptual mass, it does not allow me to create a divided surface.

Revit 2016 steps:

- New Conceptual Mass

- Import CAD from Ribbon, choose SAT file and OK

- Hover cursor over SAT geometry and TAB to highlight

- Divide Surface using button on the Ribbon

Revit 2017 steps:

- New Conceptual Mass

- Import CAD from Ribbon, choose SAT file and OK

* The vital difference:  the SAT is imported in as a Mass, not an Import CAD

* Select the Mass and Divide Surface tool does not show

The test files for both versions are attached for you to experiment.

Hi @ToanDN

Thanks for sharing the files and for providing the information.

I've added these to the existing case and follow up for updates.

Hi @ToanDN

I happened to check back on this case, and the team requested a journal as well.

The problem has been reproduced, but they are trying to analyze the behavior so a journal file is needed.

thanks,

If they can reproduce the problem, why aren't they use their own journal?

Hi @ToanDN

They have requested for your journal since they want to parse in detail for any discrepancies and do a valid comparison between both our journals.

Maybe its an API issue, but we have to wait to hear back from the team.

I will follow up with a upload link shortly - specifically for the sat issue.

Thanks,

@ToanDN - can we also have the SAT file to play with?

@Sahay_R scroll up to see the SAT file and you are welcome to test with other forms as well.

Thanks @Viveka_CD - those are the SAT-in-RFA files. What I meant was the uninserted, unaltered, un-everythinged file.....I would like to mess it up in my own way!

Just open that RFA and export it to SAT.  It was created that way.

2018 displays the same (mis)behavior.

FYI @Viveka_CD

However - and I'm sure @ToanDN has already noticed this - if you open the SAT-in-2016 family in 2017 - it behaves properly. Workaround, methinks?

In the meantime, just open the 2016 file in 2017 and 2018.

@Viveka_CD

What is the status of this problem? I've run into the same "misbehavior" in Revit 2019.1

Hi @J.Negrete

Can you share a screencast of what you are experiencing?

There is an ongoing investigation of this import option, we would also like to test this further if you are willing to share your files to test.

I can send you a private upload link if you'd prefer. Let me know!
