Please will someone (Autodesk) make demolished objects automatically transparent, it is a major schlep having to isolate demolished objects, selecting them all and then overriding them to make them transparent, if its demolished it is no longer there but you cant see through it? Or am I missing something?

Haha! We Demand!! I love it...

Greetings from South Africa, fellow Saffa!

This is actually quite frustrating indeed, I really hate doing so much manual work where it seems totally reasonable to have demolished elements as underlay and not covering all the new stuff, it really makes no sens at all.

The solution posted by the user just above you to have a separate Wireframe View and placing it over your working view seems the most... "Elegant" workaround, I guess. I just really hate having to do anything manually with VG, or Instance overrides.

If you want to change it, do it in the View Template. I force everyone in my office to redo their views using Templates if they start adding too many one-off text notes and filled regions.
