Decal does not show

I'm trying to place a decal of an image on a wall in my elevation view and for some reason when i place the decal on the wall, it only shows the outline frame of the decal which lets me know that the image has been placed, but the actual image is not visible and i don't know why, i've tried it with different images and the same thing happens sometimes it does show if i change the graphical settings to realistic but most of the time its not visible. I've attached an image of what i'm talking about.

Doesn't sound like you created/defined the decal type properly.

you have to check that you are creating and uploading the image you want to show

if you follow instructions you will get perfect results

Check to see exactly which surface the decal is attached to--you may need to set the current workplane to the surface that the decal needs to be hosted to BEFORE placing the decal onto the model element.

I was using Revit 2018 and it wasn't working, I've just downloaded and tried it in Revit 2019, its now working fine. Maybe decals don't work properly in revit 2018?

Glad you got it working.

From my experience, Decals have worked properly in all versions of Revit since they were implemented.

I don't think switching from 2018 to 2019 was the difference--it was something about the method used.

Can you describe exactly how you got it to work in 2019?

I created a new decal type, browsed my local disk to select the image that i wanted to use and then placed it on the face of a wall and then chose realistic view and it worked, its weird because that's exactly what i was doing in revit 2018 and it was acting funny, I don't know if i accidentally clicked on something in the settings which made it not work but i'm pretty sure I followed the same steps

I can clearly see the decal frame in your screenshot; there's just no image associated with it. Have you inspected that decal type properties to see what image is assigned, if any?

Is you Revit 2018 updated to the latest build?

What is the format of the image you are using?

Also check your wall properties, as I has an issue where it wouldnt render ontop of a block wall but over gypsum board it would. So i had to change my wall properties to allow a decal to be placed and rendered.

Should the decal be visible in 3d viewer? I need to see it in 3d but only see the decal in elevation.

Decal works for me when your visual style is realistic. If its shaded, hidden and wireframe, you won't be able to see the image. still trying to figure out how to make it work other visual styles. Hope someone will assist
