Hi. Can anyone help ? I want to create a parametric window family but I want my window to have uneven height jambs (i.e. it has a sloping head). The window metric template doesn't seem to offer this capability.

@Anonymous - Attached is a 'window' family (RVT 2015) with a sloping head - I've adjusted the Opening cut profile to give me the slope and then nested in a separate family that actually generates the window geometry (I generally find this approach more robust).

 

Hopefully you can pick it apart to understand how it's done.

There is no on screen explanation on the screencast. In order to achieve on what you are looking for, you need another reference plane to control the slope of the window. I would also use a family to be nested for your window as Keight suggested. You don't really need a reference line per my my first video. I just did it just to show you that you can also use an angular parameter to control the slope of the window (which I didn't). On the second video (this post), I didn't create the reference line yet I still achieve the same result

Hi. Thank you for your replies. I have created the wall opening with splayed head successfully. However, the sloping top-part of the EXTRUSION won't follow the sloping top-part when the width is altered. Any thoughts ? I wish I could attach a screen print or attaching a file but my work internet access seems to be blocking me doing this !

I'll assume you have created your extrusion in elevation.

 

Edit the profile and click on the Align Tool.  Now move over the top end of  one of the vertical lines and press tab until you see a blue dot at the end of the line, click this then click on your reference plane and finally click on the padlock to lock it in.  Repeat for the other side.

 

This *should* sort you out but hard to be sure with seeing exactly what's happening.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong but when I try and add a width peramter, i get an error message as the enclosed screen shot. Any advice ?

See if you have any dimensions for the same reference plans on other views and delete them.

By default there is already a width parameter on the windows template so there is no need to add one. 

Go to your reference level view and you'll see it.
