copy & paste detail group from one plan view to another plan view

I am having a problem copying a "Detail Group" from one floor plan to another floor plan. I click the the detail group and click the copy to clipboard button. I switch views to the floor plan I want and click the paste (align to current view). I do not get anything after this not even an error message.

Are they supposed to be at the same location on different levels?

not at different levels. it is lines that represent roof drain leaders and their path. they are on a notation floor plan and we want copy paste them onto an enlarged restroom plan.

as far as I can tell it is not hidden. I have checked the light bulb and the visibility graphics

the option for paste align to same place is grayed out (not available). paste align to current view is available and that is what I have been choosing

If you use normal Paste (CTRL + V), can you see it?  With groups, you can actually use normal paste and see a purple grip when you hover it over the proximity area, and it will snap to align.

my detail group is pretty large so trying to hover over where the origin node is located is not working. is there a snap shortcut for snap origin or snap node.

Regarding snapping to origin/node, there are options for Centers (SC) and Points (SX). You can see if these are turned on in the Snaps dialog (Manage -> Settings -> Snaps).

Regarding the missing pasted group, if you have not already done so I would suggest checking if there are one (or more) duplicated instances of the group in the same place as the original one.
(You could use the temporary hide command after selecting one of the instances, and if you still see an instance of the group then there was more than one in the same place).

If you are finding that there are group instances on top of each other, check the elements in the group to see if they are hosted to other elements specific to the level (like floors, walls, etc.), other than the level itself. In this case Revit isn't able to place/host into the new level and a copy is placed into the original host object.

I tried the snaps and no luck.

I do not believe there are duplicate groups on top of each other. I am copy from floor plan to another floor plan. it is a detail group and it consists of detail lines only. I was under the impression that detail lines cannot be hosted to anything?

This is interesting.

I wouldn’t expect detail lines to be hosted to something from the original view.

Have you looked through the items in the following blog post for other items that may prevent the pasted group from being displayed in the view?

What about you uncrop the view then paste (normal, not align to anything). What happens?

If you are still looking into where the group is being placed, try using the following steps:
1.    Paste the group. (after pasting it should be selected by default, be careful about clicking anywhere that would clear the selection)
2.    Click the Manage Ribbon Tab
3.    Click the IDs of Selection command (on the Inquiry Ribbon Panel).
4.    Copy the Element ID of the newly pasted group.
5.    Go to the original view

6.    If the selection is lost, use the Select by ID command (also on the Inquiry Ribbon Panel) to select the element again.
7.    If nothing is visibly selected in the view, use the Isolate Element (HI) to hide unselected elements, and see if it is visible (you may need to use Zoom Extents to focus on the only visible element).

If the steps above do not display the element, try creating a new Default 3D view, and go through steps 6 & 7 again.

I followed the steps you provided. I isolated the group and in the original view that it was in I can see it when isolated. With the same group still active I changed views to the view that I pasted it in and isolated it. And I am unable to see anything.

Thank you for the update.

I'm not clear if you are saying that you can see the pasted group in the original view, or if you are saying that you isolated the group before pasting, and then pasted and isolated and you don't see anything.

If you can see the pasted group (selecting by ID) in the original view, but not in the view that you pasted it into, then this would indicate that the group is being placed into the original level, and if the view you pasted into is on a different level you would need to look into what in the group would be hosted to geometry in the original view (preventing it from being placed in a different level/location).

Since you are only seeing detail lines in the group, one approach would be to create a separate instance of the group (in the original view) ungroup that instance, select only the detail items, create a new group, and try copying the new group.

Can you clarify the following?
-    What is the element ID of the original group?
-    What is the element ID of the pasted group?
-    Is the pasted group (selected by element ID) visible in the original view?
-    Is the level of the original view and the view you are pasting the group into different?
-    Does ungrouping and creating a new group (selecting only the detail lines) clear the issue?

Sorry,
I'm in the original view and select the group and hit copy. I tab over to the desired view and hit paste to current view. I go back to the original view with the group already selected & active I then tab thru to the desired view with the group selected and hit isolate. When I do that nothing shows on the screen
