I'm working on a semi-subterranean theater. The roof is acting as a plaza. I'm trying to import a BIM of a catwalk to place into the theater space. When I import it, it sits on my ceiling/plaza level and will not allow me to move it into the theater space. I can move it to wherever I want in free floating space. It's almost as if its afraid of entering my theater. Please help before I break this computer 🙂

Also, that floor you see was added to see if it would snap to that. It's a catwalk so its going to be suspended... if it will go inside of my theater space. I'm also fairly new to revit so I'm sorry for my ignorance.

Picture doesn't help too much. How about posting the file -- or the element you are inserting so I can see what properties it has.

the catwalk is a Roof Hosted family. Are you placing it on a Roof?  Sounds like you want one that doesn't host to a Roof.  If so, you can turn it into a non-hosted family. Interested?

...you know, another workaround would be to create your floors using a flat roof.  Then the catwalk will host to it.

It's just for a hypothetical school project. I don't have to hand these drawings off to get built. The idea just needs to be there lol

Here; teach yourself a new Revit Skill. It'll come in handy now and in the future -- plus it will amaze your coworkers and boss. Might even get you a pay raise.
