Change 2024 icons to 2023

Is there a simple way to change the 2024 icons to 2023 versions? Autodesk lists the new icons as a feature but it just slows down productivity trying to get used to the new look. It's like when a grocery store rearranges the shelves; just let me find what I'm looking for.

I agree. I wish there was a way to change the icons back to the previous style. Some programs offer a "classic" option when they change the interface, if the user is not interested in the new style. My sight is not very sharp, and for me the new icons lack contrast. As an example, just look at the new Glasses icon. The new glasses are smaller, oriented in the opposite direction, and don't have color in the lenses.

Having other more important things to change in the software, I find these changes irrelevant.

I generally don't mind the new icons. I think they're cleaner, and if folks don't like them, they'll eventually get used to them, just like every other time software or a website changes their look.

However, the new glasses icon is objectively bad. The style is nothing like any other icons, they are small, and the temples for some reason come off the top of the rims. Again, I still think folks will get used to them, but I agree that they are not good.

Could go back to 2008 if you really don't like change. That was a much bigger UI change. How did humans ever cope with that?

It took me 2 seconds to get used to the new icons. I sometimes have to open up R2023 and still don't get lost. I mean, they are still similar and at the same location. It would be huge disservice to enable people to not adapt. Every tutorial or book will use the respective icons, but then a user with a retro-UI will be even more confused.

Here at work, we have W10. But our IT enforced some shell that makes it look like W7. Because some people apparently can't handle change. The result is, I can't use any of the simple ways that EVERY google result shows to change things because W10 now doesn't work the W10 way. At work I have to find manual workarounds for changing settings (or not at all). At home I have W10 and W11 computers and both are easy to use, even if different. So please, don't do the same for Revit, let R2024 look like R2024.

they had so much work giving us this "amazing new feature" (instead of fixing and improving zillions of half baked and broken things) and you don't like it? Bad boy!

This new release is really asking for another letter from the major companies.

You are very vague on what exactly you are missing or need to work better. There is the ideas forum to vote on specific new feature or improvement requests.

I agree it doesn't have a lot new features (at least not the ones I use or hoped for). But I like the fresh look and my (subjective) impression is it is quite fast and unbuggy and has many small undocumented improvements. It's just more flowy than 2023, even if it looks very similar.

In an ideal World we get many new and improved features and a bug-free software. But in the real World, unfortunately, we can either have very slow improvement (and no major bugs), or many new features (but many bugs that require SP1 or SP2 to actually work). If I have to choose between the 2 options, I choose the more conservative approach.

I'm not defending Autodesk and agree for the $ we pay there could be more. But with an annual release they can't add features that take a year of updates to actually make work.

That letter was laughable, much like the rest of your comment.

What are you, an astrologist? What else can you tell me about myself that is irrelevant to my question?

You need to accept the change or not use the new version. No Astrology needed.

The end.

The new icons are for little kids, they are cartoonish looking.

Do you know how many more little kids are using AutoCAD these days?

I got different issue with Icons.

After updating Cad to 2024, the icons of different Cad File Type appear in the same icons - dxf, dwg, bak - look the same as dwg, and in the 2023 version these icons were different.

Different file type had different icon design.

I mean file type icon not icons in a UI Interface.

And when we change the dxf icon to look like dxf, then all icons look like dxf - they cannot be differentiated as they used to be.

Any one got similar issue?

Please advise.

I recall the fallout when AutoCAD went to the Ribbon, it was nuclear.

Microsoft did it with Office and we all just got on with it!

I remember in my office when the Office version with ribbons was installed by IT (probably 4 years after MS released it...).

I embraced it since it was an improvement. But all computer-illiterate people (who don't use any of the sophisticated features outside font size adjustment) went ballistic and acted like they won't be able to work at all.

I made the observation that at home when it comes to entertainment, people are able to figure things out and use the newest stuff. they are very motivated to get Facebook on their phone, watch Netflix and so on. They can figure it all out by themselves. But when it is a change at work, the very same people sit down and act like the employer needs to provide training, or some "classic" UI and so on.

The saddest part of the fallout was the so called professionals and experts did not know you could simply copy your settings between releases (it even asks you) or edit the CUI and save the settings they had to put in an option to switch back to Toolbars

Well this doesn't help with the washed-out, low contrast icons 'inside' of 2024, but at least it's an easy way to differentiate between the various year startup icon(s) on your desktop:

Incidentally I think the new colors for the ribbon across the top are manageable, but the row of icons in the bottom, left row which are now a series of androgynous blue dots?  Ew.
