Central model cannot be found

@ToanDN

Good morning Mr. @ToanDN, I have an issue, maybe you could please help me resolving this:

Please see the attached images so you can have a better idea of what is going on (I was unable to attach 6 images, so I had to split this post in 2 parts, containing 3 images each);

I made a copy of a Revit model so that I can make changes and preserve the original client file. As soon as I open that, I get those error messages shown in the images.

When I open a floor plan in the original file it shows everything and when I open THE SAME view in my copy it looks completely different. any suggestions please?

Thank you

Just open the original file, tick Detach from Central box, then Save As a new file to work on.

You said if you open the original file, everything is fine.  What happens when you open it with the Detach box checked?

Also, does the original file come with any linked files?  If it does then the copy may lost the links due to pathing.

That message goes to the fundamental nature of Central and Local Files. A copy of a Central File IS a Local File fundamentally. If a Central File is moved to another folder or that folder is renamed Revit regards that situation as if the file is a Local File now.

As such a Central File must be saved deliberately creating a new Central File in order to move it, saved to its new location and specifically telling Revit to make it a Central File again. The Detach from Central process is a shortcut for that because it presumes the file must be Saved first in order to resume its status as a Central File again.

As @ToanDN suggested, to create a copy of the project that is not connected to the original project anymore, use Detach from Central and when you Save the file for the first time after doing that you'll be asked to provide a name and location. If you wish to preserve the original project file, save it using a new name and location. If you're trying to replace the original overwrite the original (though I never do that before archiving the original). Make sure nobody else is working on the project before doing this.

No, the Original file is clean, no linked files.

I do everything, I always follow all the protocols. I open the original file, detach from central, save as another name in another folder, make the "new" file like a central one and, when I open the level that I need to work on, it looks completely different: no stairs, no walls...

Thank you

Any chances you can share the save-as version of the file?

I opened it detached, save as to a new central file, close, open the new file and the model is there, the view shows normally.

Thank you.

It's weird. Could you please open both the Original and the Copy, open the same view as the attached images, compare them and see how they look?

Thank you

I never posted this question under "Central model cannot be found" I had to split my question "File Issues" in 2 postings so that I was able to attach 6 explanatory images: This Revit forum allows users to attach only 3 images...

Just to clarify.

Thanks

They show exactly the same.  Below is form the Original, what I posted earlier is from the copy.

By the way, don't attach images, use Photo button to embed them in your post.

yes it's a good idea attaching photos to the post, thank you. I didn't pay attention on this

I don't even know what is going on with my files. the thing is, when I open another file with the copy one linked, it shows perfect.

I would like to accept your answers like solution but at this time it won't be possible, thank you again for your kindly effort.

I will try to figure what is going on. I need to make some work on the copied one.

Thank you
