Cannot Unpin or Delete Revit Element With "Corrupt Internal Join Data"

Anonymous

Hi, I am having probably my worst day in Revit so far. I was changing some of the floor levels on a project, and everything was correcting just fine. When I got to one specific floor level, I get error "Element's internal join data is corrupt". I was able to isolate the element by ID number, but I am unable to do anything but select it. I cannot unpin, I cannot move, I cannot Delete... ANY HELP would be greatly appreciated, as there is a forehead shaped dent in my desk at this point..

I tried auditing the file before opening. It did not work. It is impossible for me to try auditing "after" changing the floor level, because my whole problem is NOT being able to change it at all, becuase every time i go to move it it gives me the same error message, and I can't do anything about it other than cancel the move. The error is "element's internal join data corrupt"... it will not let me do ANYTHING with the element other than select it, and the element is preventing me from moving the floor level... I'm at a boiling point because we are currently trying to meet a deadline with information, and I'm unable to make the model accurate... Pretty much the worst problem you can have at this time.

Hi @Anonymous

We are trying to reproduce the error.

Can you be specific as to on which floor level this occurs, and what is that you are trying to change? Any screenshots will suffice/ element ID etc. Can you also confirm the version of Revit (updates installed) that your using?

Are you on C4R?

Looking forward to your reply update.

Thanks,

Viveka,
I sent you a private message 2 weeks ago detailing everything about the issue...... Here it is again, timestamped:

Viveka,
I have uploaded a copy of the Revit project file that we have been having trouble with to the link 360 folder that you sent to me in an email. The issue is located on the "2nd Floor Mezzanine" Floor Plan floor level. The I.D. # of the corrupted element is Curtain Wall # 2800935. I cannot unpin the element, delete it, move it, or even move the floor level height that it's on (which is the reason i need to resolve this asap). Please take a look and if you can offer ANY solution to this, please do so. We are at our wit's end with this issue.

Thank You

I was under the impression that since you recieved this information 2 weeks ago that this problem was being worked on and a solution was being found... I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH how important this issue is to the timeline of this project. Please confirm receipt of this information, as this is growing in importance BY THE MINUTE. It is not a complex problem involving many aspects of the model... It's ONE corrupt element attached to a floor level (2nd floor mezzanine) that we need to move and can't because the element specified is both corrupt and attached to that floor level.... This is sated in the above message, sent 2 weeks ago... This one issue is holding up a 68 million dollar job, and I can't help but feel as though it is not being taken seriously by autodesk, which is very dissapointing and frustrating. Ive also icluded screen shots showing the error i get when i try to move the floor level, as well as the screen shot of the corrupt element ID number preventing me from doing so. Please respond with confirmation and some sort of TIMELINE of when i can expect this issue resolved.

Hi @Anonymous

I did not have this information before. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, I apologize for this disconnect, maybe a glitch in the forum redesign and private messaging.

I am talking to development to prioritize your case with the required information. There was a lot of back and forth with missing communication and requirements.

Thank you for your patience and I will be in touch with an update.

Regards,

Hi @jair_gh@Kimtaurus@ToanDN@cbcarch, @Anonymous

Sharing an update on this issue and some snippets from my communication with Chad.

Chad received the fixed model that was sent to him and was able to move the floor level with no problem. The issue with the corrupt element (curtain wall) is fixed in the local detached copy through internal tools.

We will continue to work on the latest copy if we receive one.

Meanwhile please see the following articles related to element corruption:

Error: Element Has Become Corrupt

Error: "Element has become corrupt at some time before this session" when opening a Revit file

Viveka,

The model I was sent works fine. However, in order to not lose 3 weeks of work that we've done while it was being repaired, I need to know that I can send you a more recent version of my project file, and have you do the same thing to it in hopefully less time. (I'm hoping over a weekend or a few days if possible). What would be the time frame of you getting a more recent model file back to me? (this info is needed for our office to schedule a stop point to send the model to you to fix. we will not do any work while you are fixing this more recent file, so we need to know a more direct clear timeframe on it).

Thanks again
Chad

Hi @Anonymous

Yes, please go ahead and send me the latest model.

Upload in the same shared folder - timestamped.

We have current priority issues with a backlog, I'm sorry that I cannot promise a fixed timeframe, but I will do my best to prioritize and get back the fixed model in a short time. Since we know the corrupted element and the cause, I hope this time it will be done asap.

Let me know when you are done uploading!

Thanks,

Viveka,
If possible, I'd like to send you the latest version at a time of our choosing, because we will have to stop all work on the project while it is being fixed. I assumed because you were able to fix it already, that there would be some timeframe we can plan around, but do you think it would be possible to fix it over a weekend? Or is work only done weekdays there? Just trying to get this planned out, because we will not be able to work on the project at all until you are done.

Thanks

Chad

Hi Viveka

The most current model was uploaded to the A360 Drive on Friday as requested. Please let me know as soon as you can what I can expect as a timeline to get it back fixed. We are at a stop work on the project while it's being repaired, so time is very much of the essence.

Thank you

Viveka,

I cannot access the folder now for some reason. I can open it, but cannot upload anything to it. It gives me the error message "not authorized"... I did not see this message on friday, so I assumed the upload worked, i guess not. Can you please re-invite me to the shared folder? It's under your ownership. I need to get the model to you as fast as possible.

Thanks
Chad

For some reason, I still cannot access the "upload" feature of the folder, so I sent you a link to my own folder with full access in hopes that it will work. Please respond when you have received it to make sure.

Thanks.

Thank You Viveka for the priority fix, and all the coordination and fast response.  The model seems to be working fine now.  I also appreciate the tips for preventing errors as well! Very helpful.

Have a great day!
