Hi, I am having probably my worst day in Revit so far. I was changing some of the floor levels on a project, and everything was correcting just fine. When I got to one specific floor level, I get error "Element's internal join data is corrupt". I was able to isolate the element by ID number, but I am unable to do anything but select it. I cannot unpin, I cannot move, I cannot Delete... ANY HELP would be greatly appreciated, as there is a forehead shaped dent in my desk at this point..

Quick workaround, try to link it to a new file and then bind it, just to see what happens
There are a few options.
- Open the file with Audit.
- Can you select the wall and change it's type?
- Aside from moving, can you grab a wall end and maybe change it's length, so it's no longer joined to any other walls? And then maybe delete the wall.
- Linking the model and then binding it could work, but you could lose some data (if I'm not mistaken: plan views and possible annotations).
I cannot do anything to the element (a currtain wall). I cannot make any changes to walls that it is joined to either. I cannot change it's type. I cannot unpin, I cannot unjoin, I cannot isolate anything within the element. Any and all action I have tried to take is always met with the same corrupt join data error.
I am not sure what an audit involves? Is that a possible solution that will preserve my work so far?
The audit is done when opening the file, you won't loose anything in your file. It just checks all the elements for data corruption. Unfortunatly it doens't prompt any messages on what Revit has fixed.
To audit a file, go to Open -> Select File -> at the bottom left corner of the open-window is a checkbox for Audit -> check Audit -> Open file.
Do you have a version of the model where this problem doesn't exist yet? (A back-up file maybe).
You could open both versions in the same Revit session, and copy the newer elements (without the corrupted curtain wall ofcourse) to the old file.
This way you don't lose too much work.
After opening the project under AUDIT, it seemed to only take a bit longer to open than normal. I assumed this may be revit fixing the issue, but upon opening, and re-trying the same level change, all the same errors relating to the element's join data being corrupt are still preventing me from doing anything about the issue.
My firm is at a very critical point with this project, and we really cannot afford to lose anything or re-do work at this point. Is there any other possible solution that doesn't invlove going to old versions, or nuking things from space?

1. Are you auditing before changing the level? How about do it after?
2. If the above still fails and since you already noted the ID of the element, then inspect/ fix/ delete it BEFORE changing the level.
I tried auditing the file before opening. It did not work. It is impossible for me to try auditing "after" changing the floor level, because my whole problem is NOT being able to change it at all, becuase every time i go to move it it gives me the same error message, and I can't do anything about it other than cancel the move. The error is "element's internal join data corrupt"... it will not let me do ANYTHING with the element other than select it, and the element is preventing me from moving the floor level... I'm at a boiling point because we are currently trying to meet a deadline with information, and I'm unable to make the model accurate... Pretty much the worst problem you can have at this time.
@ToanDN That's exactly his problem, he can't do anything to the element, not even delete it.
My best guess is still to go to an older version (without the corruption) and copy all the new elements from the latest version to this old file.
Hmm I thought it only happens AFTER he moved the level. Does it always happen no matter what?
Yes, this happens anytime I attempt to drop down the floor level that the corrupt element is on. I cannot actually complete the move, delete the element, unpin the element, or move or alter anything it is joined to.
Does the curtainwall have an Edited Profile? Or, is it Attached at top/bottom to a roof or floor? I have found these can cause the error you are getting.
If so, can you Rest Profile or Detach?
I know you said you could not do anything to it--does it show the "puzzle piece" icon when you select it? If so, click it and select Make Element Editable or Make Workset Editable. See if a certain user has it Owned or Borrowed--look under Collaborate>Worksets.
Hi @Anonymous
Sorry to hear that you are facing issues.
Is it possible that you share the Revit model and a journal to investigate further? Let me know and I can share a private folder link.
We'll be happy to log a support case and work with you towards a resolution.

Yes Viveka, I have tried everything, and still cannot get anywhere with this. I've tried all of the above suggestions multiple times and nothing has worked. Please send me the link where I may share the project file.

Hi @Anonymous
Thanks for sharing your journal and Revit model. We require a few more files to investigate further.
I have sent you a collector utility to extract more required files.
The issue is in progress. We haven't got a result yet, so I will have to kindly ask you to wait a little more.
Meanwhile, please update Revit 2018 with the latest version, your journal shows that you are the first customer ship with build number 20170223_1515. Please run the updates from the Autodesk Desktop App.
Let me know if this resolves the issue, but we will continue testing your file.
Thank you very much for your patience.
