Can't use Split Face on structural columns/framing?

Well it looks like I cannot split any face of a structural column. So how do you apply different materials to a structural column???

First, Why would a structural anything have more than one material?

Second, if you wanted a structural column or beam to be comprised of more than one material, not members, then you could create a new structural member family with multiple solid forms and labeled parametrics to control their dimensions or in a 2D model view use the Region Fill command to apply a fill pattern over the area to be shown as a different material in each view necessary.

Thanks for your reply.

I forgot to mention that I was using cast in place concrete columns. Because they're exposed to the occupied space, they're plastered and then painted, just like walls. This is the way we build houses here.

Actually I've just figured out a solution. First I create an architectural column in Revit and then create another structural concrete column inside it, like you are working with steel columns. Revit allows the faces of an architectural column split. Although I'm not really satisfied with it, at least it works.

Wish we could do that with beams

You can use 2 ways. depends on the project.

1-Model the finish (Plaster ecc...) as a Single layer Wall (e.g th.15mm) - there is a script to help you place wall finishes in room.

2-Model the finish as Strcuctural column Sub-Category.
