Can't edit grid lines in a cropped view

In our project, we have all of the grid lines in a group. When editing the group, I can manipulate the individual grid lines, no problem. I'm not sure when or how this happened, but now when the view is cropped, the group of grid lines is gone. The grids can be selected individually, but the grips to drag the bubble or tail are gone. There is no prompt to edit the group. (If I ungroup them, everything is fine but it is not my decision to keep them grouped or not)

This was not happening previously, so just hoping there was some reason for this strange behavior. Uncropping the region and trying to edit the grid lines is sloppy and tedious on such a large building.

Would not recommend putting grids in a group...

When you crop a gridline it becomes a 2D element, is yours too?

I agree, but like I said it was already set up by the PM when I joined this project.

These grids have always behaved frustratingly (I'm assuming they weren't set up properly to begin with)

I can't tell if they are 2D or 3D in the cropped view because none of the prompts appear. It basically acts like a detail line that I can click (but can't move edit)

Maybe I'll just push the issue to ungroup them..

@Avaris.  is correct.  Datums in Group are a big No No and will almost certainly come back to haunt you.  Been there. Done that. Learned from my mistake.

I live by these rules now:

Thanks folks! I'll pass this along.

Still can't figure out why the behavior of the group changed...I swear this was not happening before. I could still edit the group and move the grids in cropped views before.

Place the levels and grids in the Shared Levels and Grids workset.  Pin them or make the workset only Editable by the project BIM Manager or Captain so that people don't mess up with moving or stretching their 3d extent.  Don't group them

Are the grids associated with a Scope Box? ( AND a Group???)

Are they Pinned?

The entire group was pinned in at least one floor plan I check, but when I unpinned it and cropped, nothing changed.

No scope boxes are far as I know
