Callout tag not referencing view name

I want my callout tag to show the name of the callout view. But it seems like it is not possible to choose this option. Is it true?

That means we would have to manually keep track that the View name corresponds to Detail number.

If you want the view name to be available as a label…

  1. start by making a section head annotation
  2. create a label for view name
  3. create a new callout annotation to have the linework and other label content you need such as detail number, sheet number, etc.
  4. copy all the contents of the new callout you just made to the clipboard
  5. go back to the custom section head annotation and paste
  6. move the label for view name to where you want
  7. change the category of the family from section head to callout head
  8. load back into project
  9. go to manage/additional settings/callout head and change to new annotation

see attached file.

@dzanta

Thanks for attached family, it solved the issue back then.
But when I try to redo those steps, i get stuck on step no. 7 - When I change the family category, label automatically changes to the Detail number (with old sample text "View name".
Any tips?

the "View Name" is just a sample text for you to place the Label how you want in the family.  It will pull the name of the view out when in the Project and display the data accordingly.,

Sorry, the "Sample text" is not a problem nor my focus.
Just saying that my label automatically changes from "View name" to "Detail number" when i change the family category.
Hence when I upload to the project it shows me "Detail number" - not good.

So it is a mystery for me to see your family working, but I am trying to reproduce it myself and no luck.

can you take my family, save it as a new family and modify it accordingly?

sorry....still trying to figure out the mystery.  I cannot reproduce my steps to make the family again.  However, the original family I made for you shows the following:

Selecting View Name Label and going into Edit Label window shows Label Parameter is View Name as well as Sample Value

When I use it in a Project, it functions properly...

Yes I agree, the original family uploaded by you still works.
But if I try to modify it and change family category forth and back - then parameter in the label also changes automatically.

Stumbled across this post while trying to create a callout with View Name. Figured out the correct sequence to copy View Name label to a Callout Head family:

  1. Create new section head annotation family
  2. Create a label for View Name
  3. Select View Name label and copy to clipboard
  4. AFTER copying to clipboard change Family Category to Callout Heads
  5. Create new Callout Head family
  6. Paste label from clipboard

This way it retains the original label with View Name in the clipboard but doesn't give an error message about trying to copy and paste labels across families of different categories.

Hello.

Thank you for his solution. Even though you have written about this a long time ago, it was very useful for me today :).

Best regards,

Roxana

Work arounds are fine, but we need Autodesk to allow more label categories in the system family used for view references! It's just not enough that we can only use the 2 pre set catogories 😞
