Best way to hide line/edge throughout project?

I modeled in place an extension of the casing at this door. I can't join the 2 objects so I tried using white model lines but that doesn't work either. What's the best way to hide this throughout the project views?

How about joining two objects like this? Select one and edit, copy the geometry of this one and cancel editing. Edit the other one and paste the geometry. I hope it helps you.

add your element to the door family or use Modify->Line Work to invisible the lines for views.

You should edit the door family and model the extension in the family editor. You can then join the geometry to hide the line and it will work project wide.
