Add depression to the Floor

Having options to add points and split lines to the slab and adjust the elevation to create a slope is a great tool. It would be great if we can also have the option to create a simple "depression" onto the same floor. this comes in extremely handy for concrete floors.

As long as you can do it using the basic opening tools elements, the option is there.

Alternatively:

  1. Use a void (in place or a loadable family)
  2. Or use two floor elements and join them

If you still feel your idea could be popular to voted and Autodesk to add due to public demand, go ahead and post it on the Revit Ideas Forum

Sorry Guys, I meant to post this in to the Revit Ideas. I understand and I am aware of all these "workarounds". there should be an easier way to do this!

Cool but these are not workarounds these are several ways to do a depression some of which have been used since Revit 6.0 .. Nonetheless, for a better understand of how you expect the behavior of such option be, in comparison using a loadable floor based opening element or an inplace void, how would such depression tool work exactly?

Hi Toan,

Does shaft openings ribbon work for depression instead of cutting through the entire floor?

For me it does extrude the whole depth of it, I gave base offset value from bottom of floor face though.

Use an in-place void or a loadable floor based insert similar to the one in the GIF - Family is attached. (you could basically add a shape handle for the depth but in the attached an input value is required because the family servs as both Opening and Depressions. This is essentially the purpose of families.

The OP wishs that this is added as a tool on the ribbon, wish is cool; however, if there is a chance for such option to be implemented it has to go on the ideas forum with a good reason/arguement "how much value would such tool add to the User experience compared to the attached.

Thanks for your file shared, I do also made a void family to place a depression on wall and floor, but it looks like yours looks more user friendly.

thats the simplified, originally it contained 3 nested components

  • 1x Detail Components for each type ie: 2 (plan/section view graphic representation)
  • 1x Label (displays LxWxD + Host Thickness from FFL)
