3d model workflow question

Hello I would appreciate other peoples opinion on this matter, traditionally i would create my models from ground level up, which works great for planning drawings. I have started a new company where we also create construction drawings so i thought it would be a good idea model up the sub floor construction ie foundations+walls below ground. The problem is this then in turn messes up the planning elevations as you don't want to see sub ground construction on these. How do you guys approach this? i guess maybe the model should be ground level up only and in sub floor construction details are just drawn in on drafting views?

You should model every level correctly whether they are above or underground. There are tons of ways to not show the underground levels on elevations: topo, view crop, even masking region... But, please, do not use drafting views for floor plans.

ok i mis-typed before i meant i use detail items in section views to show extra detail not in 3D model ie i would draw the sub ground construction in. I like to use the gradient fill background option on my elevations so i will just use a fill region to cover the below ground stuff. Its shame you cant set the ground level to come infront of the construction this would solve the problem. I was just interested in how others tackled this issue...
