Sweep creating: How the profile is rotate?

When create a sweep, the profile, the path must be on xOy plane. As far as I understand, the profile must be rotate to stay on the working plane depending on where you place it on the path: start, middle, end. However, once the profile stay on the working plane, how is it rotated 2 dimensionally on that plane?
I created a non-symmetric profile and could not find a way to control its rotation on the working plane except try it until it is corrected positioned.

Hi

First of all its better to create a family using " Profile " and insert that " Profile family "

to use further in extrusion, sweep etc..

Then while editing sweep, you may select the profile, and Revit will give further option

for rotating it, and offset etc...

example

Profile 180.JPG.

Profile - Zero.JPG.

Profile - offset.JPG.

This is indeed a good way to control profile position. Still, there are 2 things I wonder if you could explain a little further:
1. You said "edit sweep", does that mean I have to create sweep and commit to data base, then I can edit the profile?
2. In order to edit the position/ rotation of the sweep profile, I have to know how it is original place on working/sweep plane. Unfortunately, I don't, and the api does not offer any kind of visual interaction with the profile like what you have shown in Revit.

Thank you very much.

1. I haven't used the api or any tools, am just trying to explain from my general understanding of revit work.

2. usually committing to the sweep and then changing profile does works... in this case, profile should be

a family...

3. if you see the profile family template... there's a method to create profile... now the problem is  there are few

types of profile templates and they can be used within each other.

profile types.JPG

Have a look at this .. different types of profile..

I try to stick to last one, and use " A " side..

and the Insertion point is the Intersection between X and Y axis..

its better to have a profile drawn only on one quadrant, only then the flipping etc

will work flawlessly,

Overlapping profile between quadrants makes the profile unpredictable....

Green - Profile sketch side..

Red - Host side..

hope that helps a bit...

Best luck..

Thank you for the detailed information. That does help me to understand how Revit work a lot.

Hi,

The answer is wrong. As using profile family for sweep will allows you to control it only where sweep starts/profile is inserted. The profile will rotate anyway around the 3D path.

Yes. You are right. @agnes.sojka

just that OPs question was not regarding 3D path, but 2D rotation in a plane.

Cheers.

##- Is there any solution then for the profile to stop rotating around 3D path ? -##
