Ability to import .blk data to Recap

Ability to import .blk data to Recap

Now that Leica have released the BLK360 Data Manager which allows the user to download the scan data directly to a PC/Laptop (along with choosing the scanner settings, hopefully goodbye iPad) can we please get the ability to import the .blk data files direct into Recap just like any other scan data. We can then register on the desktop.

Or Leica to assist Autodesk in importing the .BLK natively.

I think they'd make a converter before they allowed direct import, although they do with Faro, right?

Frustrating.

Beyond frustrating!

The BLK format fixes many issues (big black blank spots where there is no imagery, or misaligned photos). The only way to correct for this is to download the free Leica app and ‘pay’ additional to get a license of Register 360 to download the data then export to E57 for use in ReCap.

This is a huge pain, and ReCap should be able to import BLK format!!!

Autodesk/Leica is not a partnership for the betterment of the user, but for Leica 1st, then Autodesk (who I believe got the short end of the stick) and then the user. Allowing the user to import *.BLK files would be a significant benefit to the user.

Import of .blk files would be very helpful to:

a) avoid import via iPad

b) use .blk files as original/source and backup files

Florian,

It won't happen. Leica has come up with a BLK version of their Register 360 product that you can purchase/subscribe to that allows much more robust registration and exports into RCP format directly after registration.

Recap mobile ipad app is not going to work after Feb 1st 2021. Autodesk should at least add support to import .blk files to Recap Pro.

this is urgently needed.

Leon,

As I said above, I don't think it will ever happen. The most would be a converter to import the Leica BLK format to RCP. Right now the closest you'll get is the BLK REG 360 annual subscription for $1080 (thats about $480+- more than the RECAP pro annual fee) , but you get so much more capability in the REG 360 software. It does a much more robust registration with a great report and then can export to RCP job that includes good photo bubbles, something you can't get with the E57 export and import routine. It's just the way Leica rolls. The $480/yr is definitely worth it if you do any appreciable amount of work. We have a Leica Suite, but are using the Reg 360 full version because we import e57 dat from multiple sensors from consultants. (Reg 360, Publisher Pro, Cloudworks for Autodesk & Jetstream Enterprise)

I do have the Cyclone Register 360 BLK Edition, unfortunately my computer broke down and I can’t free my license to install it in a new pc. Support is not as fast as they should, not even sure if it’s gonna be possible. Leica should make the whole licensing, installing and reinstall more eficient.

I want to know why after spending $20000 on a piece of hardware I do NOT AHVE ANY ACCESS to software to use my hardware !!!

When I bought it there was a "free" option, as I get Recap Pro as part of my autodesk suite of products.

Now I can no longer use it and I am forced to buy software from Leica to use the HARDWARE I Bought from them. The fact they have the BLK360 Data Manager is a Fn' joke as I can't use BLK format in anything but thier $2000 a year software.

ADD to that their CLM licensing for the software is antiquated and a joke as well. It is constantly blocking me from using it. So I have to wait a day or two for them to fix the license when I have to use it 5x out of 10x.

UGH... I love the hardware.. I had the company behind it.

This in a word is BS.

A powerful app that lets you manage all your information in one place can transform your business.

While I understand your frustration with Cyclone Field 360 not supporting the BLK360, it's great to know that the BLK360 App does offer some functionality, even though the full version requires a subscription. For more seamless e57 file conversion directly from RAW *.BLK files, it would be fantastic if a company like Leica could step in and develop a solution. don't think it will ever happen, as already stated. converter to import the Leica BLK format to RCP would be the most useful. Currently, the closest you can get is the BLK REG 360 annual membership, which costs $1080 (approximately $480+ more than the RECAP pro annual charge), but the REG 360 program has far more capabilities. It performs lot more thorough registration, produces fantastic report, and can export to an RCP task with excellent photo bubbles—something the E57 export and import procedure cannot provide. It's just how Leica operates. If you put in any significant amount of labor, the $480 year is absolutely worthwhile. Although we use Leica Suite. I had to fight for it.. but an unknown option is an annual BLK360 Cyclone option. You dont get upgrades and such.. but you at least get to use up to the latest version of the software. It was only after I challenged them on why the ability to use my data was limited to a subscription service on a $20000 piece of hardware I bought with no other options.. that they told me about the permanent license.

From Liecas' rep last year :

"

Hi Charles

Register360 BLK Edition can be used to collect scan data with the BLK360.

Cyclone Register360 BLK Edition:

You have 3 options: Subscription or Time Limited or Permanent.

Currently, you have Register360 BLK Edition Subscription. Cyclone REGISTER 360 (BLK Edition) Software (Subscription). *Subscription price includes base, required. It is renewed each year. It is a floating license so it can go on a laptop or a virtual server. Each license of Cyclone REGISTER 360 BLK Edition provides access to Cyclone FIELD 360 for in-field data collection and scan pre-alignment.

Our Subscription Register360 BLK Edition Entitlement ID is for a one-year. Currently, the renewal cost is $1140 prior to your local tax.

Our Time Limited License of Register360 BLK Edition is for a week. Currently, it is 94.50 prior to your local tax.

Our Permanent license of Register 360 BLK edition is $2,550 plus an annual CCP of $470 for a first-year total of $3,020 prior to your local tax. In year two you would only pay for CCP which would be $470 prior to your local tax in year two and beyond .

Our Cyclone licenses cannot be installed on multiple computers, but they can be installed on a “server” and accessed by multiple computers, just not concurrently.

Permanent is you own the license for life. Lower cost in the long run.

Which are you interested in?"

I went with the permanent license and to deny the CCP after the first year. Now we have a permanent license and can use our BLK360 without having to pay an annual fee for "upgrades" we will never need, and customer support we never use.

With Leica’s new BLK360 Data Manager, it’s great that you can now download scan data directly to your PC or laptop. It would indeed be very useful to have the ability to import .blk data files directly into Recap, similar to other scan data formats. This would streamline the process and allow for easier registration and processing on the desktop. Adding this feature would enhance workflow efficiency and eliminate the need to use additional devices like the iPad.

Well, the BLK data manager isn’t new. It’s been around since 2018.
The original partnership Between Leica and AutoDesk fell apart or was planned that way until they developed their own processing software register 360.
Like it does have a field wear app called Cyclone FIELD 360 that you can purchase or have a subscription for that allows you to capture data from a BLK 360 device and then export to an e57 export format after you have aligned the bundle and done An optimization. However, I don’t think you get true panorama photo bubbles in that export.
Only the other way is to purchase their register 360 BLK edition and export two RCP format or 57 compatible format that has photospheres.
