Need Help with Coordinate System

I am using point clouds and from the meta data, the best I can tell about the coordinate system is

NAD_1983_2011_Contiguous_USA_Albers",GEOGCS["GCS_NAD_1983_2011",DATUM["D_NAD_1983_2011",SPHEROID["GRS_1980",6378137.0,298.257222101]],PRIMEM

I am having trouble selecting the appropriate current coordinate system using Recap such that when I bring the point cloud into Civil 3D it is properly georeferenced.

Please Help!

Thanks

Neal

We are typically using updated survey data on top of the tif DTM.  The tif DTM just gives us a better idea of the surrounding terrain without doing a more extensive survey (and keeps the surface files much smaller).

I was able to do as you suggested via Recap and I can confirm that it came in properly scaled and located in Civil3d.

I'm totally open to using the Lidar data, but on the off chance that we would need to use the tif DTM for a project, do you have any ideas how that would work?

Use QGIS to crop that huge tif to your area of interest. For point clouds, even though ReCap can crop a las/laz, CloudCompare is much easier.
Avoid any surface over 2 million points in Civil 3D. Over that you'll get the dreaded kiss-of-death mms surface file.

I don't have access to QGIS at this time (internal IT security issues).  Is there a way to bring it directly into Civil3d?  Would QGIS convert the coordinate system for me?

Create the data clip boundary first, and only then add your DTM to the surface definition. Otherwise that huge DTM will choke Civil 3D.
QGIS can easily transform a DTM's coordinate system.
