Hi:
Mudbox can Patch holes in the meshes, can remove faces, patch the hole left for those removed faces again. You can extract parts of an meshm in a new mesh apart,(duplicate selected Faces), flip and mirror those meshes. All this was very usefull, but in addtion to that, and option to make Bridge, this is, connect 2 separated borders in a mesh, would be great, in addition to the Mesh> Patch function.
No matters if only works in triangulated meshes like Mesh>Patch do. I have used to retopologize again the mesh patched afer I solidify it with Mesh>Patch, and works well to me.
An Patch>Bridge function could be great to solidify por a mesh extracted from an character,
For example: you have already modeled the proportions of the body of your characterm and you need to do an belt for him. You could select some faces ring in the belly area, make Mesh>Duplicated Selected Faces, and next use a bit the sculpt tools to shrink a bit the 2 open borders of the mesh and next, use the Bridge tool beetween the 2 borders to bridge and solidy the mesh, this way. No matters if I must to triangulate the mesh first via Reduction. I can retopologize, to obtain quads.
This idea, show us other necessary tool for Mudbox: An "Shell option" for solidify meshes could be great.
Why? Wel.. If you look, an great ammount of people are using Marvelous designer to generate and create accurated clothes, simulating the fabric physics.
In much cases, the generated meshes are thin, opened meshes. Marvelous can export it with certain thickness, but I prefer to "shell" the clothes after I made some more fine adjustements to the clothes in Mudbox. Other users make the same exporting the clothes from Marvelous to Zbrush.
So, why go against the current?
Create an "Shell" function for meshes, would be fantastic to encourage Marvelous users, to send your designs finished to Mud for final adjustement/detailing and textuiring on it after make the clothes thick. I have started using Marvelous, and, of course, I export the final clothes to Mud for final and additional detailing, and is an explosive combo.
Make it more explosive and attractive to users with those new functions in Mudbox 😉
