@absoluteKelvin

Where did you see that Maya 2018 was released?  I just checked my account and no download is available.

I heard that it would be released at SIGGRAPH.

Cool.  Thanks for the link.  I guess the official release is still slated for SIGGRAPH.  It is helpful to know what to expect in Maya 2018.  Although, I am now a little deflated 🙂

Hey...Do you remember this Maya Future Modeling video?  It showcased some cool sculpting R&D that was thought to be incorporated into Maya in the near future.  It never made its way to Maya.  I wonder if Autodesk decided to incorporate that tech into Mudbox?  I hope so.  It would seem to make more sense.

Glad to read that Mudbox is getting back on track with future planned new features.

Looking forward to it.

Hi guys,

Mudbox 2018 is now available for download. As previously mentioned, this is a compatibility release with Maya 2018 and 3ds Max 2018.

Regards,

Jill

 I have been using Mudbox for a while now I just recently dropped my subscription to Mudbox because it seems that all Autodesk was doing is slapping new years on the Mudox name without much chang in the software.  I resubscribed because I read on these forms that you guys were going to start getting back on track with Mudbox.  This video is about two years old what happened to some of these ideas?

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3biu7r  Come on Autodesk Zbrush is kicking our tails. Lets go!!

Sorry if you don't understand what i meant. I think Mudbox doesn't have a great new feature since version 2014. The Mudbox community is shrinking everyday. It's very dificult to believe in something new after four years of almost nothing and a new compatility release.

No, Fabio. I understand you perfectly.

About the lack of new functions in these last 4 years, you have reason.

But, I'm going to tell you the same I said to other member of one of the Mudbox groups that I am the admin in Facebook:

If you like to see Mudbox enhanced, and with more functions, please, try to push Autodesk and the developers with your collaboration, sugesting ideas, to make the change. But not trying to propagate the panic, and your angry in the persons that already use Mudbox and like to see it in development again.

If you have problems or are in disagreement with the possibilty of a new version of Mudbox, with new functions, or you don't like to wait more, I will tell you only one thing:

Please, go ahead, and start using Zbrush like all the others, and stop undermining the hopes of those who want to see Mudbox back on track.

If Autodesk fails to us again, well. you can continue your path using other sculpting softwares.

I really don't think I'm the one angry here. You should try to treat people you don't know with a little more respect.

I will use mudbox as long as autodesk releases it. people that love Zbrush, that's great for them. But dont force it upon someone.

Mudbox and Zbrush are both spectacular apps and both are awesome!

Sure ZBrush has all the bells and magic, but honestly how many of us truly fully utilize all Zbrush features?

Yes, one can argue at least is there, but what's the point if one will never use it.

Mudbox has it short comings but one thing is sure, it is meant to be user friendly and easy to use. That alone, can't be beaten if compared to ZBrush.

Without derailing this thread who has a bigger D**K, I am hoping to see rendering improvements. Perhaps bridge between Mudbox and Keyshot?

Mudbox -> Keyshot?

Keyshot -> Mudbox?

I haven't used ZBrush the last year since I started my phd programme, and Mudbox even longer. But I'm always looking forward to see new improvements for the day when I make a come back :)))

What are the new features of version 2018 actually?

Or is it just a running april fool again...like the last 4 releases?

Thx

as you can read above 2018 is just a recompile from 2017.... but there is a bugfix release 2018.1 in the works.. and a feature update for mud 2018.2... there is a new mudbox devteam that started to work on mudbox...

That may be Mudbox in Maya as many have been awaiting.

ZBrush is claiming to have a new release soon, the issue with zBrush as many can agree on is it's U.I; there are tools within tools within tools, not organized or hard to find.  If that gets turned around and they finally clean up the U.I it may be all zBrush needs, then again; if Autodesk is aware of this and they too after the past two releases which were bum releases finally put features and power back into the users hand; they may see former, including myself; subscribers come back.

It depends on what path the next release of Mudbox and the next release of zBrush have in store that will be the deal breaker.
