I'm not shure...as far I know this number is how many time the word "mudbox 2018" appears in a bunch of more or less old threads.

Not a good clue 🙂

I wouldn't use this as a guide. This is just how many times 2018 software crops up with the word "mudbox". It could be Maya 2018 exporting to Mudbox and it'll still display.

Don't panic. The same passed with Mud2017. In the start the link was filled with generic Mudbox info and knowledge. Next when Mud 2017 was released, the oficial info, like manual, specs, minimum pc requirements, and technical data, and bugs fixed appeared.

Mudbox 2018 is currently planned to ship at the same time as Maya 2018, as a compatibility release. Maya 2018 has not shipped yet either.

Hope this helps,

Jill

Booo Smiley Sad I was hoping for more, but I'm glad there's some activity here and and on the Mudbox ideas board.

We plan on delivering an update release not too far after 2018... stay tuned! Thanks for your patience. And make sure you vote for your favourite ideas! https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/mudbox-ideas/idb-p/969.

With all due respect, I'm totally fed up with answers like this. Anyone using Mudbox has almost certainly moved on at this point because Autodesk refuses to be honest and transparent about their plans for the product. After YEARS of misleading comments, "stay tuned" and avoiding straight answers, Autodesk owes its loyal customers a straight answer  - what is the future plan for this product?

Hi Brendan,

I hear your frustration, and I'm sorry. We truly are just getting things back on track with Mudbox. We have already fixed scores of defects that we will deliver in Mudbox 2018 update 1 - I can't give you an exact date because I don't know myself just yet, but it shouldn't be too long after Mudbox 2018. After that, we are planning on delivering some new features in a further update. I don't yet have timing on that as we are still in planning. I will try to let you know as soon as I do. I promise there is no deliberate lack of transparency here.

Jill

Out of curiosity, why are all of the bug fixes waiting for an extension/update to be rolled out if they're done rather than including them when Mudbox 2018 is actually released?

Yes, what Oglu says is true. The build that will be 2018 is already done, but all software we produce then has to go through a process of testing, documentation, localization, etc. Meanwhile, the dev team is already working on the next release before you get your hands on the current one. It's just the way it works in a large software company.

Jill,

Thanks for the update.  I'm a Mudbox professor looking for what version I'll be teaching this fall.  We need to have our standard machine ghost image built by the end of July to be ready for the semester in mid August.
