Meshmixers Cut and remove a portion

I want to cut a portion out of a object in the middle, then put the two left over pieces together. Is this possible and how do I do it?

I just want to make an object shorter by removing a portion in the middle.

Thanks,

Kevin

Assuming you want to get rid of the middle of a vertical object, I would do it this way using PlaneCut and Pivots twice:

  1. Upper cut: EDIT/PlaneCut at CutType=Slice(KeepBoth) and FillType=NoFill
  2. EDIT/CreatePivot at PlacementMode=FromLastTool > hit DropPivot
  3. Lower cut: EDIT/PlaneCut at CutType=Slice(KeepBoth) and FillType=NoFill
  4. EDIT/CreatePivot at PlacementMode=FromLastTool > hit DropPivot
  5. EDIT/SeparateShells > Discard surface in the middle
  6. The lower part active run EDIT/Align. Set Source and Destination = Pivot
  7. Click the lower pivot and Shift+click the upper pivot. This alignes both cuts
  8. Activate both objects and run EDIT/Combine
  9. SelectAll(Ctrl+A , Cmd+A on Mac) and run Edit/Join

Those instructions worked great, but when it joined together it looked like it tried to match each piece together and didn't work out so well. What I ended up doing was cutting each of the two pieces and saving them. I then 3d printed them and found I didn't need the top piece after all.

Thanks for all your help!,

Kevin
